Thread: Armorsmith needs a low level version of composite.

I was reading that thread where someone was complaining about how rare resources are and how until a whole bunch of different rare resources all spawn he can't make any armor, and I thought to myself that what we need is a low level composite type armor.

Armor with only one vuln, but instead of getting 80% special and 60-70% base, this newbie armor could grant 30%ish base, and 50%ish special, with one layer slot.

And most important of all, no named resources required in it's construction, and if it must have hide, only generic leathery in small amounts.

This way a starting armorsmith can aquire some readily available high qual generic steel and iron and copper and maby some fiberplast or polymer, and some leathery hide and put together this newbie armor that's actually usefull, while they continue their search for the rare materials needed for higher quality armor. Something cheap and easy to make that they can sell for small amount to newbies so that they actually have some sort of cash flow while they wait, and wait, and wait, ..... and wait for the rare spawns they need to make ubese or composite.

I mean, making bone armor? Chitin armor? Tantel? They're all crap that nobody wants to wear, AND they're just as hard to make as composite. They all still require rare named resources which are just as hard to aquire as composite resources. But an armor with say 50% kinetic resists, and 30% to everything else (but stun) with fairly light ham's would be armor that any newb could be proud to wear. It's not like chitin where those swoops who start shooting at you go right through the armor and it's only good against melee mobs.

Now add a 13% kinetic layer and you could have 63%ish kinetic, 63%kinetic/30%base and now you have some niice armor, which would still leave ubese it's nitch for high kinetic protection, but weak everything else.

Hell... padded is currently totally worthless armor, nobody makes it, nobody wears it, it's actually harder to make then composite. I say gut padded armor, totally remove it's current resists, and it's current resource requirements, and it's current HAM's, and remake it to be the newbie armor I envision.

you can make non-advanced composite armor, and the only named resources are naboo fiber and bey copper

only the advanced segmants call for the named resources, the non advanced only calls for one or two of them

Allow me to disagree. Padded armor is the best looking armor, has the most variety in colors, is a fun challenge to make considering all the different resources needed and has some pretty good resists if you have the right stuff (76% kinetic, 48% base). I am wearing it all the time and I look goooooood.

Even two named resources is too much for basic newb armor imho. We'd still have the problem of some unlucky armorsmith being without the resources he needs to make the armor (which is the reason I think this newb composite is needed in the first place). And it's not just 2 named reousrces that limit the production of composite, Intrusive ore is also a huge stumbling block. What I'd hope for for this newb armor is basic basic resource req's. steel, copper, fiberplast, polymer, ect. The sort of thing that we can dig up easily, there's always some fairly high quality steel spawning somewhere for instance.

And what are the ham's like on non advanced composite? Never made it personally so I can't guess, but I imagine they'd still be beyond what basic 50%/30% newb armor should have. Plus non advanced composite should run around 40% base and 50% special (I'm guessing, without layers). A little beyond the 30% base I envisioned. And basic newb armor without kinetic as it's special protection isn't that usefull either. And I don't think basic newb armor should be layerable 3 times either. If 3 layers are possible then it becomes a keeping up with the jones situation and the newb armorsmiths are stucking looking for layer resources as well. 1 layer would be a good number, add a little bit of individuality to the armor, without requireing massive amounts of work and resources.

And I guess there are indeed 1 or 2 people per server using padded armor, and who're actually happy with it, my apologies .

But considering its one of our 5 armor types I kinda think it's underutilized. Remaking it into a newbie armor with no named resource requirements and 50/30 protections would give the style a lot more use. Again imho . But I certainly wouldn't complain if they added a whole new armor type alltogether
