Thread: Reference to question in Armorsmith Guide
I posted thisin the Armorsmith guide sticky, and I haven't received feedback in quite a few days. Therefore I am posting it in the main forum in hopes that it will be seen.
---------------------------------------
I looked over this guide to get some enlightenment on how armor works. Needless to say I found just about all I needed to know. A couple thoughts I had though:
1. I assume that damage taken on a "Head Hit" or "Body Hit" is only calculated against your armor Helmet and Chestpieces respectively, and not the overall Armor Protection of your entire suit. What about "Arm Hits" and "Leg Hits"? Do you average the ratings of your Gloves, Bracers, and Bicep Armors to calculate an "Arm Hit", or is there an even further detailed, but hidden, hit location? Same for "Leg Hits" with respect to Leggings and Boots.
2. If the damage is broken down to individual Arm and Leg pieces, then what about armor without these pieces? Do they offer protectionto these body parts with less encumbrance due to less pieces, or do they leave "holes" in protection? The only vague clue to this in the guide was the reference to the Ubese Armor Jacket that covered the upper arm, but does it protect the entire arm?
I appreciate any help or a link to a previous post that would explain this. I also think that if there is an answer, that it should be added to the guide.
------------------------------------
head - covered by helm, mindhits
chest - covered by chest/jacket, healthhits
upper arm - covered by biceparmor, ubese jacket, mabari jacket, healthhits
lower arm - covered by bracer, mabari gloves(?), healthhits
hands - covered by gloves, healthhits
legs - covered by pants/leggings, actionhits
feet - covered by boots, actionhits
belt - removed a few publishes ago as a hitable location
It might be further broken down into lower leg as well, notice how ubese pants cover almost all the way down while leggings don't? I guess that if you aren't wearing boots the pants will protect parts of the bootslot as well (perhaps the same slot Kashyyykian legs pretect?). Also seems like mabari gloves protects the bracerslot. As a sidenote: You can wear biceparmor with a jacket, but this will only lead to more encumbrance, not sure if the protection will stack or if only the upper level of armor will take affect.
So if you take a head hit it is obviously taken to the helm. An arm hit can be either of the armpieces. So if the game discovers you were hit in the lower arm it checks if you got any armor there, calculates damage and prints "arm hit", never checking your gloves nor biceparmor. Leaving obvious holes in your armor if you choose to drop some pieces. However, if you are buffed you might in many cases only need a helm(preventing mindhits), since the other stats regenerate so quickly and got such a large pool. Also if you prefer to PvP then you will often see people wearing mainly helm, chest, legs and boots, leaving the other pieces with lower protection or not having them at all. Since thoose are the main targetable loations for specials.
So in other words, there is no way to further "crunch the numbers" than what we have in the guide. And, per your explanation, When the message "Arm Hit" flashes above your characters head, it could be any of your5 armor pieces if you have them, or get through due to a lack of a piece. But all of that takes place behind the scenes.
Thanks for the info.
