Good luck on this one. I'd love to be trying this kind of stuff, but my server isn't even spawning decent resources at the moment

How many layers are you adding adding to your adv comp seg? From the stats on your kin layer, I'd guess only one. Try making some 2% base / 4 % special kin layers to start. You should be able to get this by putting one point each into special and base with 8 points into ham. What this will do is drop your ham from 16/16/16 to around 3/3/3 or somewhere close. Drop three of these kin layers into the adv segment. This time, put most of your points into base to bring it up to 22% to start and any remaining points into ham. On final assembly, put your into base again and whatever is left into ham. What this does is effectively reduces your ham on your final product while increasing the special and base protections. Keep in mind these are starting values.
Experiment a lot. Experimenting on gloves works well as they only require one armor seg which can be crafted by hand. Try to get as close to 80% kinetic as possible by experimenting from 2/4 to say 2/6 layers if you don't hit it the first time. Remember that every point you use for protection doesn't go into ham which makes for heavier armor. I shoot for 40/40/40 ham or less (currently around 34) on the gloves.
Hope this helps you and Good Luck!
