Thread: My idea on revamping armor for the combat balance

Well, I have a feeling I am reinventing the Wheel, but I have a proposal for armor for the upcoming combat rebalance. Esserntially, here is my thought:

Most armor becomes Certified - as in, you need a certification to wear most armor. Now before people start moaning, here is the other change - make all armor balance out, so that it can approach 70% Base resists given the right equipment. This means that Bone armor will now be able to use layers, and etc. But only if you use the attachments floating around. This will also give worth to the segments that are being dropped.

Finally, the only armor anyone not in a combat class can wear is Tantel - more will be explained later on that, but essentially, it reduces the armor in play, and gives some business back to the tailors.

Here is my total revamp thought on armor:

Wookiee Armor:

Only cert required is that the person is a wookiee, until more wookiee types of armor become available.

Tantel Armor:

Certification: Requires None

Gets dropped down to Artisan Engineering, and the Helm, Chestplate, and boots get dropped to Artisan Engineering 2, 3, & 4. Because of the lack of armor in this set, Tantel will be better as a starter set of armor. However, to give purpose to this armor, and keeping with the theme that this armor has only 3 pieces, I suggest all Tantel armor grant +10 To the following: Dodge, Melee Accuracy While moving, Ranged Accuracy While moving, Terrain Negotaition, and Burst Run Duration. This is to give the armor some use to balance out protection issues, and make the armor more effective for those who move during combat. This would be the only armor that has skill mods, and the trade off is the lack of armor pieces. Thus, the bonuses to movement compensate for the inability to tank.

Bone Armor:

Certification: Novice in any of these professions: Creature Handler, Ranger, Pikeman, Teras kasi Artist, Smuggler, Swordsman, Bounty Hunter

Move Bone Armor up to Personal Armor I, give it layers, and boom, yer done!

Chitin armor:

Certification: Novice in any of these professions: Rifleman, Pistoleer, Commando, Carbineer, Combat Medic, Bounty Hunter, Smuggler

Move Chitin up to Personal Armor II to take the place of Tantel, and add more layer capabilities to it.

Padded Armor:

Certification: Requires None

Drop the Encumberance, make it easier to craft, and add 1 more layer capability.

Ubese Armor:

Certification: Novice in any of these professions: Bounty Hunter, Fencer, Creature Handler, Ranger

Fine as is

Composite Armor:

Certification: Novice in any of these professions: Commando, Combat Medic, Bounty Hunter

Fine as is

RIS Armor:

Certification: Requires None

Leave RIS as is, but make a loot drop that can compensate for its vunerability without it leading to stat shift.

Final notes:

Bounty Hunters can wear any type of armor - its a nod to them for the grind they undertook, and nods to the fact a BH can customise their armor to suit their personality.

Smugglers are the same as bounty hunters, except they cannot wear composite or Ubese armor. The other armors are more of a "smuggler"y feel.

All armor aside from RIS and Mandolorian armor will be capped at 70%, but will be able to be sliced to 75% Max, and will have the capacity to get to 70%, although the person making the armor might need a loot drop to do it. The armor should be capable of reaching 70% in one of 2 ways - a 12 point AS using good materials and a base loot segment drop, or any AS with ok materials using an Exceptional Segment Loot Drop.

All protections in Special Protection will be treated as AP 2. The Effectiveness will be treated as AP 1.

RIS and Mandolorian will have higher caps, allowing for 90%, to compensate for their rarity and add value to them.

All armors will have the ability to have 3 layers added to them, standard. This makes the Interwoven drops obsolete.

These are my general thoughts. I would like to hear what some of you think.
