Thread: Armor Layers and Experimentation Question

Hi:


I have a very specific question pertaining to the crafting of composite armor with triple layered advanced segments.


I've noticed that when crafting stun armor layers withvery good resources, I typically can max special resistance at 12% and have 3 experimentation points left over. I'm a 10 point smith.


My question is this: does maxing out the experimentation bar after the special resist % "caps"result in better special resistance armor?


Example, let's examine two stun layers I just made.


Layer 1: 2% base 342 integrity 15-15-15 HAM 12% special resist - 7 points in resistance, 2 in quality, 1 in durability


Layer 2: 1% base 293 integrity 16-16-16 HAM 12% special resist - 10 points in resistance


Presumably, there might be some rounding involved that doesn't show up in the display. In other words, Layer 1 might be 12.01% and Layer 2 might be 12.44%.


Will both of these segments (assuming the same resources across the board) make composite armor that has the same special resist?


My observation is that the 1st layer is preferable for lots of reasons - namely because it will yield higher base effectiveness %, lower HAM, and the same special protection. Does the community agree with this assessment?


Bonus question - assuming really good resources, will it be possible to hit 65% base effectiveness with armor made with Layer 1?

Assuming layer 1 is 12.01% and layer 2 is 12.44%, then the special resist on 3-layered composite armor will be 36% and 37% respectively, a difference of 1%.


I would prefer layer 1 since it may give you 3% more base resist in your armor.


To hit 65% will be really hard. You will need extremly good resources. I would be happy with less than 65% though.

OK, of course if one is 12.01 and the other is 12.44 there will be a difference, but both will read 12% in the experimentation window. In practice can you get fractionals and do they affect the final outcome of finished armor pieces?


Let me ask my original question in a more simple way:


Is there a practical difference between a layer that has 82% experimental resistance (12% stun effectiveness) and a layer that has 80% experimental resistance (12% stun effectiveness)? Willthe 82% make a triple layered bicep that is, for example 37% while the 80% will only make 36%? Or, will they both give the same exact result, assuming all resources used are the same?


Edit: going to check this out using the virtual armorsmith sheet...

StunResistance1 = 82*0.14 + 1 = 12.48


StunResistance2 = 80*0.14 + 1 = 12.2


So, there is a difference and on final combine you'll get 37% with layer 1 and 36% with layer 2.


There are fractions involved in experimental percentages (i.e. 82% can be anything between 82% and 83%), although we can't see them. But there is a way to calculate these (check out my post Exact Math Equations Behind Armorcrafting)

I must correct myself here. Due to some rounding involved ina final combine of armor pieces, you'll get 38% with layer 1 and 37% with layer 2...
