Thread: A Question about layers

Hiya all,

What are 'good' values for a kinetic layer ?

I'm currently making them for my ubese armour, and theyre coming out with something like 10% kinetic, 1-2% effective, and 14-17 encumbrances - I don't put any experimentation in effectiveness as i'm only really worried about the kinetic protection available on the ubese - however, I am worried about the HAM hits it is taking.

What should I be looking for to compete with the other master armoursmiths, is this HAM hit high (I have no idea what everyone else can manage to get) ?

bump...

My most recent batch is 11% kinetic, 1% effectiveness and 12 ham - and thats pretty much the best stuff i've got, so I hope its decent stats compared to others.

I realize that most people make just stun or kinetic layers, for the obvious reasons. However, I was wondering if there was any difference in the HAM and base% increase provided by different layers, using roughly equivalent resources. The reason I am asking is that I wonder if you could make padded armor that had a fairly high base that would include both kinetic and energy resists, and could then be sliced to 60-70% effectiveness with much lower HAM then a suit with kinetic layers.

No difference. You will find that it's easier to get decent HAM or base with some though. Mainly because some resources are "gated" or limited and will never have a decent SR or MA.

Energy and Kinetic have the simplest resource requirements. They need stuff like "metal" and "gas," which are easy to get with very high numbers, and as such its easier to get very high stats with them. Stun layers have the most specific and hard to get resource requirements, but stun layers are in demand so people make them. I have very good metal and gas, but the last spawn of crism ore on kett had OQ of 81 and SR of 191, so that hurts.

I think there's a more recent spawn that's better. Not much better though. I'm pretty sure it's in decent supply from the local resource peddlers too.

OK, thanks for the info. I guess I will go the standard route of 2 kinetic layers given the tendencies of the AI in this game. At least the padded will look nice.

Yeah I forgot about that one, I did some experiments with it and it was still to bad to make a big difference.

No difference; layers are layers.

I am a layer master for heavy resist

STATS:

Acid base 3 /14% base 4/10%

Energy base 3/14% base 4/10%

Kinetic base 3/14%, base 4 10%

Actually, I had great resources for blast layers as well. Padded armor has blast as special already, so nothing new will move to special if you use them. Sure, it means burning intrusive ore, but if you had a recent spawn, that might not be a big deal. Ferrous metal is usually some 900/900+ carbonite/duralloy steel anyway, Polymer and amorphous gems ( which you already have for kinetic layers).
