Thread: To repair, or not to repair...

Hi Armoursmiths. I'm no armoursmith, myself. I'm a Commando. But I have a armoursmithy question for you.

I have a nice set of composite armour. 80% Kinetic on all pieces. Great for PVE. Cost a pretty penny. But it's getting down in condition, almost to 60-70% of maximum.

I bought some good armour repair tools, but I'm afraid to use them. Does an Armoursmith repair armour better than I would? Do i risk losing my item by doing it myself? Do I risk losing it by having someone else repair it?

Should I repair them, or should I find a Master Armoursmith? Does it make a difference?

I dont know what the case is here. However, as a weaponsmith I can tell you that repairing a weapon with or without weaponsmith skill yields the same results. Its a bug. Maybe its the same with armor.

If you cant replace pieces, Iwouldnt repair it because sometimes a piece will break. If you have the $$ for a new suit, get one and repair the old one. Then keep the remaining pieces of the old one in the bank. Id keep doing that over and over. Eventually you'd have enough pieces of repaired old suits left over to mix and match into extra sets

There has been no definitive statement from the developers regarding wheter or not the reapir bonus for armosmiths really works or not. I have repaired things with my alt combat character and I seem to get about the same number of succeses as my Master Armorsmith.

However, I would suggest that you repair them when they hitsomewhere in between 30-50% max condition, and lower and it seems to reduce the chances for a good repair (at least from my experience). Don't bother repairing if you are over 50% condition because IMHO the risk/reward ratio is too high espescially for expensive armor.

Try the gloves or the bracers to see how they work for you first I guess...

If you do feel that you want to protect your investment ask an armorsmith if he could repair the parts for you at his shop next to an armor crafting station. Be sure to offer him a few creds after he is done, remmeber tie is money for some of us.

Good luck

Camrux hit it on the head. The more damaged it is, the higher the chance of a failure. I hate to repair anything over damaged more than 75% because people just complain when it fails. It isn' worth the meacly 1k i get for repairing it to listen to people whine. I do repair armor i make for free no matter what and give a replacement if i break it. Just a nice customer service feature from Qum, Sunrunner.

Interesting. Thanks for the info gents. I'll just repair it myself and suck it up if I fail.

Just posting to agree with some previous statements. I have no idea if I have a better chance to repair as a Master (12 Point) armoursmith but I do suspect that the few repair tapes I use make a difference as I haven't failed a repair of any armour piece with 50% condition left in 4 months.

At lower values it gets progressively harder to repair... sub 10% can be very difficult.

You have to keep in mind that everything in this game was meant to break. Fragility of crafted goods is the only thing keeping inflation under control.

That being said, from experience, subjective as it is, I can tell you that my repairs have gotten better as I climbed the tech tree and used better tools. At tech IV with a 98% tool I get almost no failures, a lot of "repaired but reduced" and a few "repaired with only minor blemishes".

I wouldn't overpay looking for a 100% tool, using a 99 or 98 will do. The difference is negligible. The best odds would be given to a master AS, but the difference is also probably pretty small compared to other AS's espc those high in the tech tree (expert armorsmith).

Lastly, I wouldn't repair you armor yet. I don't repair mine until it gets to like at least 40% and I'd even let it get lower. To my knowledge there's no benefit to repairing it when its in better or worse condition, as long as the condition isn't 0.
