Thread: I am so confused about experimentation....

I finally mastered armorsmith and I am now trying to really learn the trade. After making some simple armors, I *though* I understood it, but now I am completely confused. How do the experimentation lines work? I tried to play around with making some composite gloves (because they don't use much material) and it doesn't work the way I remember it working with other armor. Putting points into experimental resistance raises the condition, quality changes to effectiveness and experimenting on durability increases the special protections. Is that the way it is supposed to work? I thought that the durability and experimental resistance seems reversed. Also, even with good armor segments that I inhereted (I have also tried my own) and very good materials I am lucky to reach 45% special protection because it goes up 1% for every 2 or 3 experimentation points. Can someone please explain all of this to me or point me in the right direction? This is definitely not following what the guide at the top of the forum says should happen. I have made 4 pairs with the same strange results.

Ahh yes, composite is different to all other armours in the way experimentation works on it. But, it is only different in the final combine stage - the segments still work as you would expect.

From my experience, composite experimentation works in the following way:
- Quality (middle row) boosts base effectiveness and special effectiveness
- Durability (top row) Lowers encum and boosts special eff by a few points - but only the first time you do it
- Resistance (bottom row) Raises condition, and affects special resists in the same way as Durability.
Note: the special resist boost will only occur the first time you experiment something other than quality, after that it won't move for anything other than quality.

So, the usual method for experimenting composite is to push Quality as much as you need to get the base resist you're after (usually all the way, but not always), then experiment either Durability (first choice for most, unless you're specifically making high-cond armour) OR Resistance.

Hope this helps

Thanks! With that advice I am now getting the sort of results I expected as a beginner, even with my own segments. Basically lower 70% base with upper 70s to 80% for the special resists. I only get 69% base if I try to plug up the stun vulnerability, but hopefully that will get better with better resources.
