Particuarly, I want to focus on their usefulness.
As we all should know (at least anyone who has followed the CURB progress anyway), the new way armor is likely going to be made (I say likely, because the devs themselves said everything is subject to change), is that every armor will have essentially a base resist to everything starting off. Then, as you increase the resists in one category (say kinetic), a so called "opposite" category (in this case, let's say energy) decreases. That alone will help breed diversity in armor, and make no one Normally crafted set "the best".
Now, that being said, there is great potential for even base segment enhancers in this system. If it is not already in the works, I propose this very simple thing for the loots that go into armor:
Have loots be the only way to buck the system.
In other words, imagine if by using even a BASE 3% NS layer in your armor, ALL stats get raised by that 3% resist, with no "Ying-Yang" effect. Say you have a Kimo segment enhancer that adds to I believe heat and cold - whatever the % is on that, heat and cold get raised, and no negative effects can be felt.
Suddenly, this opens up a WHOLE NEW market for loots, and makes NO LOOT useless - Everything has a function, and everything can can worth. The potential is enormous, and it would revitalize the market. Further, with the need for special armors at different times, this will increase the demand for other segments like brackaset and sharnaff plates, kimo scales, and essentially any segment enhancer NOT named Krayt, Janta, Nightsister, or Rancor.
THAT should be the drive for loots, and if it isn't in the CURB already, it should be fought for, as it will allow more unique and diverse types of armor, even of the same base type.
Now, in addition to that, I want to talk about the "Epic Armor"s as the devs call them, Mandolorian and RIS. Right now, there is positively NOTHING Epic about them other than their looks. Therefore, I think these armors, in order to TRULY make them feel epic, should NOT follow the Ying-Yang effect, and instead be allowed to be crafted as they have in the previous system, where raising one stat does NOT lower the other. RIS is supposed to be rare, and therefore, it should already have a built in control that prevents them from greatly unbalancing the game. Thus, RIS achieves the Epic status it was MEANT to have in the game.
And in order to avoid truly top shelf RIS, the devs have to do one simple thing - make the Interwoven RIS schematic RARE. That's it. Even if everyone rushes out to get RIS, without interwoven, people aren't likely to even sniff 80% kin 60% base without good loot items. So even RIS would have limits, and the Interwoven RIS schematic would be the "Holy Grail" of RIS, allowing for the Best RIS on the server to be crafted. That would TRULY make RIS as epic as the devs say it should be.
Now, on to mando - I realize there is nothing that can be done in terms of crafting Mando to affect resists because of how the DWB works. However, I want to put this forward: Make Mandolorian color selection possible, and in this manner: Give the Alum minerals and another component needed for the armor "colors" - one of these affects the main color, the other affects the trim. Therefore, in order to get mando in your color, you have to do the alum missions to get what you need, and you need to get the other components in the colors you need. Because lets face it, mando is SO rare that there aren't enough people to trade pieces as the Devs envisioned. It would be much easier on the players to trade alum packets and such, than deal with the disappointment of a Mandolorian "Clown Suit".
There are the ideas I wish to put forward, and I want to see how the Armorsmith community feels about them, and I also want to see if Okram will fight for these ideas as well. I think these things can really make our profession shine post CURB, and help us to lose the reputations of being stodgy crafters who only care about composite....

I agree completely with your ideas. The only downside is the "revitalization" as you call it, of the looted layers and the auctioning frenzy that will follow. However, that's necessarily a bad thing. The fight will be more for the resists of any and all armor pieces as opposed to the type. But different types have different resists. Don't mind me, I'm thinking out loud.
I don't think you mentioned this specifically, but I would like to see any ofthese lootable layers and segments allowed for use in any type of armor. The differences would be in the protection type gained and the % of that protection. As you said, it will make all of these layers and segments worthwhile instead ofautomatic deletions. However, I'm a little on the fence on this too...it may make it too easy. Thoughts?
Agreed on RIS and Mando. Besides being rare, RIS should be special. I think keeping the current system on RIS would do that.

Very good post. I agree too. A good example that comes to mind, as you said, would be NS Layers. Another good one is Krayt Scales and things such as Rancor hides that have 5% to opposing elements (Rancor hide has % cold/heat, if I remember right).
I never really thought about it until you mentioned it though. Very good insight there.
I like the point you make about Mando too. The few pieces I have clash obnoxiously. A blind man wouldn't wear them, to be honest. I just want Mando to remain epic, to remain difficult to get, so that the hard work my friends and I put into what we made isn't cheapened.

This just about where I see my business going... I have been selling off all old 'mass produced' armor and will concentrate on loot enhanced armor...
Also sorting my RIS cert as we speak...

I'm just wondering how NS shards will be converted. If hinderance is purely based on the type of armor will they even be usable?

Well, they would need to be converted, but hinderance would be the likely use for NS shards.
Also good news!!! Based on the feedback from the new CURB data today, Mandolorian Armor will now be able to be crafted in whatever color the crafter likes, thanks to the new skinning system!
That's one question answered!
Now we just need to know if we can have loots fit in how I outlined, and if we can get RIS without restrictions (most importantly "stat ying-yang" effect).

After all the effort I went through to get my mando, it kind of feels like the effort was cheapened to me, honestly, if it is becoming craftable.

I agree with you completely, but i think this is at least the 15th post I've seen from you worrying about your mando.

I only counted 7...

But yeah. I'm worried about a lot of stuff, not just Mando. The Devs have a history of cheapening experiences and this is just one in a long line of them. It's disappointing to be honest.
Jedi, RIS, Mando, etc, the list goes on and on. Hell, I don't even HAVE a Jedi.

I see people here talking about 80% and that. I think we are in the wrong ballpark. I bet we will be lucky to see anything hit 60% max at best. Remember one of TH points in the first page of the overview. Where people have the ability to walk around in 90 armor. I think this new system will be a lot lsee than that. And the armor that gives the best protection. Will hinder you in many new ways.
How many people are going to take the time to grind up Armorsmith when this hits test center this week? IM not sure if I will bother I mean I wanna start making this new stuff. But it will take time and money to grinf it up. And with no frogs availible in the initial phase it will not be worth it. But seeing that it takes so long to make our crafts. They would give us the ability to get in there and start testing this out.

Does anyone know what they mean by this, since full suits are already availible for some of these armor sets...
In addition to the full sets that have been added, the following sets of armor have had additional pieces added to make complete sets:
# Bounty Hunter Armor: Full Sets available for limited species
# Mandalorian Armor: Full Sets available for limited species
# Marauder Armor: Full Sets available for limited species
# Rebel Recon Armor (Marine armor): Full sets available for limited species
# RIS Armor: Full Sets available for limited species
# Tantel Armor: Full Sets available for limited species
