If people don't mind taking 3 hours to kill stuff, you are correct, armor is going to be obsolite.

Well you can take TKA and commando for example, or TKA and rifleman or BH or whatever high damage output prof you want. The tka defences will work no matter what weapon you use as long as you don't put armor on. So yes I think it is of some concern but I don't think most of these templets are optimal so I don't think everyone will use them.

if you don't mind being within 6m to kill something go ahead

also the specials can be used across professions, if you guys havent figured out, ranged professions will rule the roost, not TKA.

umm, strafe 2 with a flamethrower? yea, I might want to be wearing armor

(the death of armorsmithing is just stupid to put in title)

I remember these threads when jedi couldn't wear armor anymore

somehow we managed to stay in buisness.

QFE

and I know that I wont be going TKA on any of my alts so I'll need armor. If anything this is a great chance for Tailor to shine, Tailor has been overlooked for a long time now and I cant wait to get some new orders of clothes not just armor.

i believe... if i wasnt mistaken from Blixtev post.. that you only get the bonuses in the armor and holding the appropriate weapon.. so you wont get tka bonuses if you are holding any other weapon other than tk weapons and if you are wearing armor...

From Blixtev's post:

Lets assume you are a Master TKA-Commando:

Master Commando gives you max certification for Advanced Assault armor.

Master TKA gives you their defensive built in mitigators.

If you put on your Assault Armor it automatically cancels out the TKAbuilt in mitigators.

If you take off your Assault armor your TKA mitigators again go active.

If you are wearing armor you can still use TKA specials however the armor is where your protection is coming from not the TKA mitigators. Similarly you can have your armor off and pull out the Rocket launcher and the TKA mitigators are active.

The point being you can have one or the other, they justdont stack. It is just like youare not allowedto put on 2 chest pieces.

I believe this definately needs to be tested when it goes live. A combination of TKA / Rifleman is extremely obvious, you get max defensive bonuses and max offensive bonuses and range. You will use Rifles for attack, the entire point of TKA is that you will not get any hindrances from wearing armor. "Worst case",everyone will combine TKA with their favorite profession, just to avoid the hindrances from wearing armor.

So if the TKA mitigation bonuses are equal or better to wearing good armor, we have a potential problem.

The comparison with Jedi is not very good as they constitute just a small percentage of the population while TKA is the most popular profession already. That said, I believe we already see the changes from the increasing Jedi population as well, but that is not the point of this thread.

I don't think that TKA is most popular profession atm, and I do not think that jedi make up just a small amount of the player base

hehe, ok I can agree that the Jedi population is not that small anymore. However I do remember from statistics posted by the Devs a whileago that the TKA was the most popular combat profession at that point. It has a high appeal amongst the more casual players. Granted, this was some time ago and the current fave keeps changing.

But the point is really related to stacking. Players stack to gain the best combination of skills and bonuses. If the new hindrance system shall have any meaning, you should get a significant penalty for wearing armor, especially the advanced heavy armors with high protection. So why bother wearing armor if you can get the same protection from being a TKA?

There are some basic assumptions:

- The mitigation bonuses from a TKA is just as good as a good armor

- The mitigation bonuses applies even when using a weapon from another Elite profession (which seems to be confirmed)

- Hindrance from wearing good armor gives a significantly penalty (too speed, avoidance etc.)

If all this is true, itbuilds a very strong case for combining TKA with whatever other Elite combat profession you prefer to avoid the hindrance. And anyone can become a TKA, it's not like it is a 3 month grind...

I believe this calls for some testing when they unlock the Elite professions on Test Center

Hey all,

According to the devs' diagram,TKA's are going to be the most defensive profession post CU. They also do not wear or purchase armor. Can anyone tell me why people will want to pay for armor, have to worry about certifications, etc when they can just pick up TKM and wear no armor and get the best defensive abilities?
