I am playing a Combat profession, so all i know about armor so far is i can't survive long without it, and if i'm not buffed i can't hardly wear more than 2 or 3 pieces before it lowers my stats i such a way that using specials is not longer an option .

I read the sticky post with the AS Faq, but would be glad about some clarifications:


There are 3 occasions for me to wear armor:
Am I doing this right? am i wearing the right armor for the right time? I dan't know what other armor is out there or what it is like, i came across a suit of Composite some time ago and have never used anything else since then.

- Bounty Hunting (NPC) - It's not worth it to be buffed for killing an NPC every 30 minutes, so i end up with a Composite Breastplate and a Helmet normally. I need to use stimms up to 3 times in a fight, but mostly because of HAM costs. I can never be sure what the mark will do, so i can expect to get hit by any damage type kinetic, energy, acid.. well i like the Composite for that fact.
those are 9k - 10k HAM NPC's they hit quite hard and if i get two direct hits to an unarmored part i'm mostly done for. Is there an alternative to composite? any other armor i could use that would be more effective in terms of HAM, protection, flexibility?

- Hunting for resources, or hunting in guild groups - Fully buffed, full set of composite. We are about 5 active players in our guild, so if we go out for a Hunt we normally have one tank, a healer and depending on the hologrind status some more brawler or Marksman chars. The lack of tanking chars or high lvl pets leads to me getting a beating from time to time, so i am quite happy about my armor, specially with soe higher lvl mobs.
Can i assume that any creature mob will mostly attack using Kinetic damage? if that is the case, would i be better of using a Ubese or other armor that only concentrates on Kinetic resists, or do Creatures use as many Damage types as players or NPC's do? I short, speaking Creatures only, what gives me the best protection against HAM cost?


- Well and PVP, Fully buffed, drunk and in fullset Composite is the only way to go as it seams. The only question i have here is if one should use layers, and if i would add stun layers for example, what would that do to my HAM costs?






Totally different question .. I was hunting on Dath the other day and came across several Rancor Padded Armor Segment's. Do those work now (heard they were bugged, or the scematics are) , if they work: you use the, at all, and last one .. if they are used, aat how much would they sell.

Well, for fighting creatures, it seems 90% of them do kinetic damage. So If you plan on doing a lot of PVE hunting it's a good idea to pick up a good set of kinetic Ubese. A good armorsmith with the right resources can get Ubese up to 80% Kinetic (Which is the max, even for composite). As for hunting your marks, I used to be Bounty Hunter so I know they do in fact do pretty much every damage type there is, so it seems the best way to go is Composite. Your problem is you're not wearing enough pieces of it to provide adequate protection. Personally, I wear the Chest, Helm, Boots, Bracers,& Gloves. Very rarely do I get hit anywhere else it seems. Just be sure you have all your composite pieces sliced for encumbrence if you plan on using it unbuffed. You may even have to move around your secondary statsa little to wear it all. Also, there's always food buffs. They can get pretty expensive, but a few crates of food/drink from a good Master Chef can last you a long time and save you from having to look for a Master Doctor to buff you everytime you want to hunt marks.
