Thread: Balance to the Armors

Hey guys. I'm not an armorsmith, nor do I know everything about armor, but I was just thinking today...

I think having a one armor protects all system is somewhat lame. We've got everyone in their brother using Composite armor. I think it'd be cool of Composite protected against Electricty and Energy, for example. And then Padded could protect against Cold and Heat,Ubese for kinetic, and so on.This would make for a much more varied look in the populations across the galaxy.

Is this idea even viable, or am I missing something important that wouldn't allow this idea to work?

I think you will find most armorsmiths agree with this theory.More variety, and give any non-masters a chance to sell the lower varieties of armor.

It's interesting in theory. That being said, all it would do is cause all the hardcore players to carry around three or four sets of armor with equip/unequip macros to swap the sets as incoming damage type dictated.

I'd rather have armies of composite clones running around than armies or macro-armor-swapping clones

I tend to agree. However, it would be a headache for the AS that has to be the best, having to collect even more materials and do that many more runs of components. Personally I don't see that as a bad thing though, it could potentially lead to AS that specialize in one or two types of armor rather than justfocusing onthe one truely viable type.

There are other ways to make other armors more viable.

We can all agree that padded needs a major overhaul....it woudl be a great PvE(most resists) armor if it just had manageable HAM. But as the HAM is absurdly high, and it takes so many more organics (read: difficult to gather), it isn't worth it.

Ubese is a great armor in it's current role...That of wearable PvE kinetic armor.

Tantel needs a full suit....and needs advanced segments, and it would be a sweet low HAM PvP armor. WIth all protects (including stun) of around 30-40, it would be great. Also coudl use layers to make it a really high Energy armor. but with only 3 pieces (helmet is only wearable by Human adn Zabrak) it isn't too good.

Make these changes, and I think you would see more players in Padded and Tantel, but you would see Composite only on the PvP arena anyway.

A final suggestion to make armor more original is to further skew the HAM costs....as it stands, most armor is pretty even in final HAM for the suit. By making a suit that had very low Mind Costs (like 150 whole suit) you might seea rifleman using that suit more. This woudl need to be done carefully, cause otherwise, people would mix and match suits to have one that had really low HAM in all categories and might be unbalanced(like low Mind helmet, low health chest, and low action legs, all different types of armor).
