Hi. Looking to play a Bio-Engineer/Creature handler. I'm trying to make my character pretty stylish and so I've just been clothes shopping. Here's my ideal. Ubese Armour Boots, Composite Torso armour, and some kind of gloves. These would go with my Paramilitary Cameo pants, my Spec Ops duster, a shirt, and possibly a hat of some kind.
My question, am I suicidal? Will wearing only those three pieces of armour on missions and hunts get me killed? I've been looking around for advice on just what pieces of armour to wear. I've found lots of explanations of encumberance, of how the values on the armour work, but nothing on individual pieces and which will affect a hit I take.

people hunt all the time wearing just the composite chest piece and usually a helmet, sometimes boots too.
you should be fine for what you plan on doing, taming critters and normal missions.

With the current bugs in the game (im not sure if its already been fixed, or if theres an ETA for it to be fixed) wearing only gloves, boots, chest and helmet will effectively protect you from all damage (that the armour protects against at least)
Due to some old problems (armour holes) the game was changed so that wearing armour on a specific location will protect all those 'under' it - therefore the gloves protect the entire arms, and the boots protect the legs.
You must wear a helmet to protect against mind damage, the chest and gloves will protect against health damage, and the boots will protect against action damage.
Note however, that as has been said, this is a bug, and theres no idea when it will be fixed, so you could find that one day you survive well, and another, you could be hit in the uncovered part and 1-hit incapacitated.
Im not sure about npcs that use specials (ive heard that they can target specific locations, and if that part is unarmoured, then you get hit for full damage) but its up to you to take that risk.

Cant wear chest armor with a Duster can you?
The mini suit is still in effect (Boots,GLoves,Chest, helm). Today I was hunting DW Ghosts and Wraiths in Mini suit. No unmitigated damage came through.
You will get unmitigated damage if you forgo a helmet. Not all the time but it will occur.
And the gloves will get tore up fast with that config if you do any melee fighting.
I got gank attacked at the bank in my town by a PC LLC weilder (was turned overt by st)
All I had on was comp boots and gloves. Out of every shotthat hit me, about 1 in 6 or 7
allwent tomy boots, until he landed a special to my torso (1100 dmg) = dead smuggler.
So everything being equal, having some armor on is better then none, the system seems to direct damage to your armored parts more, even if only boots.

harsh luck on getting smoked there, Smuggler.
Glad to see I don't have to totally armour up, but I've been hearing some other things. Like the fact that the duster won't work with the composite armour. That is rather unfortunate news! The chest plate is probably pretty essential to wear, isn't it. I don't want to lose the duster, it will look so cool. But I don't want to get stomped on repeatedly either! I know that melee people can sometimes get away without armour using Center of Being. I don't have that regrettably, and won't be getting it either.
Style vs. Practicality, who will win?
