Hey guys im kinda novice to armor making, been out of it for awhile and got back in this week. Due to the Titans on the server I think the best way to get noticed and NOT get burnd out is to specialize in a certain armor type.
I picked Padded armor. Does anyone have any pointers or advice to give me?

Get used to being on Yavin 4. The creature resources for padded is very high. 1 suit is about 400 yavin wooly + you need lok leather, scaley, and a generic wooly. And good luck getting a decent cubirian steel. It always sucks on Bria. There is a reason that people only make ubese and comp. Its alot easier. Even though padded is superior to ubese. Right now im making 77% kinetic 49 base and Ive had to work my ass off for the resources. Also, on bria you can't get a ranger to touch any resource for under 60cpu. So I have a ranger alt and do all my own harvesting. If you paid for all the resources for padded you prob wouldnt make much money. I'm not part of a guild, but if you are, you will need all their support if you are gonna specialize in padded. BTW yavin is not the easiest to get. The lairs spawn like 4 different kind of mamiens between 12-50 cpu with a ranger on veghash. But, the lairs are plentiful and easy to get missions for. Its just gets old real fast harvesting mamiens. Once you get a good spawn of yavin wooly, count yourself lucky and prepare to kill mamiens for a week and you might be able to make 50 suits. But, if you do all your own harvesting padded can be profitable, I don't sell any padded suit for under 300k because of all the work that goes into them. Also, I know there is about 400 yaving wooly in a suit also you are looking at another 200 or so in generic wooly. Some would argue that wooly will make alot more money in Composite and they would be right. But, if you pride yourself in making good armor that really doesnt matter. And, besides I can't think of any decent AS that isnt rich. One, more thing. If you are not a 12pt AS your padded will have low Condition and high encumberance but will probally still sell. Anyways, back to the wooly topic, 600 wooly x 100cpu (bria) = 60k thats just one component. Anyways good luck, making good padded isnt for the casual AS you have to be die hard.

My personal advice is to go for low-quality/low-price ubese. It's so easy to make, and even with crap hides you get in the high 60's kinetic range. Sell it dirt cheap, and you'll get return customers no problem. I'm also making mabari with my junk hides so that the hides go somewhere.

There's a good market for padded boots, just make them with variety of colors, Entertainer loves those things. You don't need good stats neither they just want it for looks. Dancers will buy one of every color to go with all the outfits they got.

As soon as you see any good Lokian Leather or Yavinian Wooley JUMP ON IT! By far the hardest to find.
Also make sure you've got some nice Corellian Fiberplast as that's quite important too.
I do very good business through Custom Orders and Vendor sales on FarStar, but I also think I'm the only
'padded specialist' there too.... I won't make Composite. Padded looks a darn sight more better than Compo
(well apart from that awful helmet) and you can get double the BASE stats you get with Ubese if you're after
all round protection.
Also make sure you've got plenty of high level Layers (if you're using kinetic get at least K12) and you'll be
making padded with K65+ B40+ in no time.
Be fair with your customers and you'll get plenty of recommendations as people get sick of seeing Compo
clones

what are good stats for padded armor, and I'm not talking about uber hunting sets, but like decent ones that you could use even if you didn't have a buff. Something lower than say 70%

It's hard to get great padded that you can just put on.
I've gotten upto 72% Kinetic 47% Base that you need buffs for, but I would suspect you'd be
looking at around a 35% base if you want to put it on without buffs. Upto 40 if you use clever
stat migration.
Could probably get it way higher using sister shards in the layers. But I haven't really played
with that much.

wel Im gona start a few runs on my vendors very soon..... we got the best Yavin wooly in shift from our server ever... only problem is that its expensive to get in large quantitys because there is a very good avian meat shift
So must pay 200cpu for the hide to get a good amount of it like 250k or so
Im gona sell them 400k a suit (composite 280-300k) and costum orders are always 100k more fore me
only the hide part from padded cost me around the 189k to get

I nearly always put mine on without buffs -or- food. I did adjust my stats to be able to do so, but this way I can put on my armor and then eat food for my regen and specials. Granted, I am not a combat class and don't do a lot of hunting/fighting, but this is my "danged swoopers handing out at my factories" suit and for my occasional "gah! I neeeeeeed to get out!" times.
My personal armor: 73%kinetic with 47%base
(made at least 3 months ago and I keep forgetting to get around to getting it sliced)
chest 167/79/38 (enhanced with -10/-10/-10 shards)
legs 65/174/38 (enhanced with -10/-10/-10 shards)
Tantel helmet (I hate the look of the Padded one) 26/28/113 (26%base 24%energy)
boots and gloves 45/70/48
biceps and bracers 45/51/48
My current suits are higher in resists and, yes, are higher in encumbrance, too. If requested, though, I will put more into encumbrance than resists, but the price for the armor doesn't change because the resources are still high stat and expensive.

ISCE on naritus just made for me a complete suit of 80% kinetic, 55% base 17 blast/67%cold that I can wear without buffs.
Total encumberance without bracers and biceps around 350 for all HAM, this is will some good slices obviously and some 8% rancor hides.
never even bother to make the helmets they suck instead get elite looted compoments for bone and chiten armor and makehelmets with those ^_^ the suits look incredible.. and the are really cool for hunting.

I currently make Padded armor it varies in quality though as too what hide I have in stock at the time... I don't sell pre-mades much but am starting too. MY stats vary but they run from as low as 56% kinetic with 30% base too my current stock of padded which thanks to the last Corellian Fiberplast spawn I am pumping out minimum 60% to 69% with 35% to 40% base. I do sell with helm and without w/its 300k, or 350k w/helm. I also made a recent test market run of Stun armor w/25% stun and 30% Base and Blast in the mid 20s.. Those are a bit more somewhere around 450k. I only make padded, except for composite helms, some people don't like padded helms. Can't blame them really. If your curious as to what I have in stock come to Ft Berchest or on Naboo look for EO INC under Armor Vendors.. I also have a Sunderies vendor that various items I have are sold. As for the armor itself, its comprable too Ubese but more of an upgrade, a little on the heavy side but unless your going up against big monsters you should be fine in padded. I use it all the time and do offer slightly used armor from time to time for a lot less. pieces vary from 20k for irregular pieces to 80k for high end stun.. I also love too make things using aklay hide soo if you happen too loot that I can make a very interesting piece.. I had a chest done recentally that ended up 50% base, 59% energy and 45% blast right before my new stock of chemical, with Durability of 55k..

Making 80kin/52ish base on ahazi and am one of the few padded smiths. I do mostly custom orders just because almost everyone wants a different color. I'll occasionally put a few black suits on the vendor since they are a safe sell. I also do fashion padded with crap resists for much cheaper on a custom basis. A lot of people like padded parts for their normal wear-around outfits.
as stated above - high quality yavin wool and lokian leather spawns are few and far between - stock up when you get the opportunity!
