Thread: Cost of armor

This is taken from another more important thread that I didn't want to dirty up:

Hmm... so a rough estimate based on the above information of an advanced mabari chestplate with 3 segments each with 4 layers at a price of 50cpu turns out to be little over 460K credits (9267 resources)? Holy mother... everybody is going TKA if those are the prices we're looking at lol!

I've been wondering about this for a while now. As a new armorsmith, I can generally make mid-level armor and sell it to new players who don't have much cash. Since new players can no longer wear armor until they get some XP under their belt, there goes a big chunk of my market. Will this be balanced by the fact that better quality armor is going to be frigging expensive? I mean, people who know won't generally go near Mabari armor except for looks, and I've seen chestplates selling on Bria for 5k-10k. I understand that they are trying to make all armor viable so Mabari won't stink after the CU, but jeez, that's about 10x the current price. I don't see it becoming 10x better.

It's going to be a weird market as we all try to figure out what people are buying and how much they are willing to pay for it. We're going to be busy for a while.

The more I think about it, the less chance I will be an active armorsmith. I don't have a second account to harvest this kind of hide. Alot of new resources will be needed to prevent me from making massive amounts of armor day one. Less people will use armor (more and more jedi, only elite professions.) More "specialized" armor will require more hands-on crafting. Prices will be unstable at first. I'll most likely I will just "wait and see" till the dust settles. Maybe I'll come back to AS (and the game?) at a later date. The CU is too far along to expect any great reversal on the part of the developers.

Heck, let's even look at the lower CPU's

5cpu - 46335 cr

10cpu - 92670 cr

And this is for mabari..... of course, most of the other armors will be about the same cost, but come on now... can't the dev's do any basic math here?

More resources = higher cost = fewer people buying = fewer armorsmiths -> even higher prices, repeat until there's noone to make or buy armor.

I said earlier, I am SOOO glad I ground out AS before the CU. Grinding 1500 mabari chestplates at the current resources looks like a walk in the park. Imagine how much it's gonna cost to grind them now.

I don't know if they have announced anything about fixing the "repair armor" skill, but I wonder if the durability will actually matter now. Armor will become so expensive

that people will bring the armor to us to fix, so they don't have to buy new armor. Hey, those tapes might actually be worth something now!

fewer armorsmith -> higher prices -> get everyone's attention -> make money fast -> more armorsmiths
