It's always +400 for advanced cores, up to the base of 6000. It's less than +400 the closer you get to 6000. If you experiment to 5700 then you'll only get +300.
This means once you hit 5600 you should put the rest of your points into condition (or use cheaper resources that can still hit 5600).
I'm talking about base here, which as you say is easy to see when you're doing unlayered. For primus layered it's not that much harder though. Just look at the value on your layers, multiply by 12 (assuming you are quad layering), and add that amount to 5600. That's the new number where you should switch experiments to condition.
As for hinderance I'm not sure what you're talking about. Hinderance will only go over master level mitigation with a slice. There's no reason to stop at any protection level in regards to hinderance.

Does anyone know/worked out what the calculation is. There is always an increase in resists and hindrances when the core is used in an appearance, how much is it?

Ok, what about hindrances?
In unlayered stuff, it's easy enough to work out where to stop -- when you hit 5599 protection you stop, but if you do quad primus, that will throw it out
