I've purchased some 99.99 effective armor repair tools and used one of them to repair my armor tonight. All of them were only marginally repaired and my bracer actually fell apart. I have absolutely no armorsmith or any other merchant skills but I didn't think I would have this bad of an experience. I did this right in front of an armor crafting station as I thought this actually helped. Should I have been in front of a general crafting station? Or am I just SOL even with a 99.99 armor repair tool? Thanks!

Beyond the effectiveness rating of the repair tool, we know of nothing that is gauranteed to help your chances of a successful repair. There is testimony that force sensitive repair skills help, but any evidence is anecdotal at best.

The only difference if armoursmith do it is if we break it, they want us to replace it.

Thanks for the information everyone. I for some reason was under the belief that the crafting stations helped. Man I wish I still had my ADK or the money to buy a few. This is going to cost me some credits on the armor.

I am in the situation as the OP, I find that the last use of a5 use 99% repair tool always seems to destroy my armor piece, so now I just destoy it when it's at 1 use & pull out a new one to finish fixing my armors.
What is the deal here? Clothing, vehicle & weapon repair tools do not fail this much!

From my experience, to get the best results when repairing a piece of armor, you need to repair it before it gets below somewhere around 40% or so. I dont know an exact %, that is just my best estimate. What I do know is that the lower the condition of the piece of armor you are trying to repair then the higher the chances of getting minimal results or having the piece fall apart. If the condition is at 0 then it is very likely that it will fall apart, if the condition is 60% you will have better results and will not reduce the total condition by as much. So you must pay attention to your armor and dont let it get too low before you attempt to repair it. I have found this to be the case with weapons and clothing as well. What I am not sure of is how much repair CAs and the quality of the repair kit play in the process.

i /cry every time I have to repair armour...... my own RIS has adk's on everything but the arms and I wince when I press the accept button..... why armoursmiths don't get bonuses to this skill is beyond me, we have skill tapes for repair and all but it seems to have no differance ineffect my smithy doing the repair to my ranger.....eitherway it's very uncool

i just dont fix armor for people due to that reason.... and i've had many fails with 100% repair tools..... even while wearing a suite with +25 to armor repair... its one of the great mysteries of SWG....
