i posted this on the weaponsmith forum because thast what i am. its been gettin deleted fast so please read it quick. im posting it here becauee it effects armorsmiths just as much.
this game continues to become kotor online.
let me first say i love this game and love beign a weaponsmith. also i dont like doomsdays posts but this is really starting to concern me. also let me say this is in no way directed at jedis. you guys are playing the game it is meant to be played.
jedi are set to go for the combat rebalance. all the other professions besides jedi only stand to get weaker. as of now if your a ranged profession and run into a pvping jedi knight dont even bother fighting him. you will not hit him and with no melee mitigation in effect he will do tons of damage to you. my examples come from 2 duels i had with jedi who are jedi knights.
i duled a jedi which i was fully buffed and on synth steak. my character is a mater rifleman master fecer and some other defesne mods stacked. when i was fightin the jedi in fencer mode he was only doing 150 dmg to me with his hardest lightsaber attack. when i switched to my rifle he was then doing 550 dmg to me with the same hit. now this is before the fabled comabt rebalance.also if the jedi has at least force run 2 and some heal power then forget it. he will run in circles around you and heal himself them come back and pimp slap ya with full power again. the only way tobeat ajedi without combat medic is to be a melee professions and hope you can keep him knocked down and dizzied.
my concerns is if they only stand to make all the reg professions weaker then this game is in trouble. not everyone wants to be a jedi and if they are forced to be a jedi to compete in pvp then this game is goin to be out of business very fast.
now the reason im posting this here is beacuase like i said before i love to a be a weaponsmith and if everyone is to become a jedi then what good are we. we cant make glowy sticks for people so then what. any ranged profession does nto stand a chance vers a high level jedi right now. i woudl also llike to get fellow weaponsmihts points of view about this.
i do hope that everythign i said above does not happen but the way thigns are headed im not to confident.
i also want to point out i was using a 700 max dmg stun baton and the only way the jedi coudl be beat is if he was kded and dizzy and could not get back up.

well i better type my explanation before someone decides to flame me for having an opinion
Jedi have no need for weapons, armor, structures, droids,or clothes.
This will put every crafting proffesion out of business excpet for chef.
Jedi will still need foods and buffs, so doctor, dancer/musician, and chef will be the only classes left in this game with any value.
Of course, most jedi will simply make their mains master docs / master chefs, and their alt a dancer musician.
This game is spiraling downhill quickly, and it really saddens me to see that its because of such a stupid reason. Everyone wants to be a jedi.
Jedi should have never even been considered being put into this game, it will be the death of it.
I will continue to play until its demise, whether that be soon, or much later than i expect.

Not everyone wants to be a Jedi, and the Jedi might rule the ground game, but in space everyone will have a chance to rule.
Besides, if everyone is going to be a Jedi, they need the skills to unlock their Force sensitivity so there will be guns and a need for guns there.
Also not everyonr who is a Jedi will be playing this game forever, and not to mention that with the Force ranking system, the real uber Jedi are going to be busy kicking the crap out of each other, and not laying waste to poor defenceless non-jedi.
Also the Jedi ARE vulnerable to melee professions, you just have to gang up on them. I'm surprised I haven't seen the TKM/bounty hunters running amok among Jedi yet.
Also, Jedi are high end content from people who have put alot of time into the game, they should kick butt, just like a high level player in another game should kick butt.
I don't think the Jedi are a game breaker yet, we will just have to see the effects on JtL for that...

Once the expansion comes out people will leave the ground like players left the NPC cities once Player Cities came out.
Jedi won't be the death to Weaponsmith or Armorsmith. It will be JTL that will make the professions extinct if they do not incorporate us into the process to make and maintain ships.

I don't understand all these posts. Jedi are suposed to be the most powerful profession, they're the end game. ( granted they should have higher penelties) But If you can't fight em, don't PvP is very concensual in this game, if you don't fight em they can't annoy you. If you can't compete withthem DON'T PvP with othersEveryone doesn't want to be a jedi, and there is a bit more to this game then PvP, I myself have never done PvP cept for a few duels. Also why do we all assume that we will be that much weaker after the combat REBALANCE, I assume that they will balance the combat not just knock us down to a weaker form of ourselves, plus that would only affect you whenyou PvE, if everyone is dropped lower PvP remains the same. You people all assume that everyone will be a jedi or everyone will spend all their time in space come on, there are thousands and thousands of people playing this game. every single one of them won't be jedi. Also even if they do then the devs will adjust the game to grant us a place in this Kotor online. The devs aren't stupid just slow.

When was the last time you saw a Jedi in one of the movies get killed by some schlock with a blaster rifle.... NO single player that isn't a Jedi should have a snowball's chance in hell of killing a Jedi Knight. Not a prayer. Jedi are Jedi. If you haven't watched the movies lately then maybe you should go back and see how many Jedi died in all of the 5 movies that have been released so far. And don't bother replying with "what about episode 2, dozens died against those droids...." there were HUNDREDS of droids firing on them and some of them still survived... before you start bitching about being able to kill a Jedi one on one in the game maybe you should consider whether you SHOULD be able to....

There will always be a need for armorsmiths and weaponsmiths. However with more and more jedi that need will go way down. I don't see armorsmiths doing well after the combat nerf that is coming. The need to be a jedi will be great then. That also goes for weaponsmiths. Everyone will have an alt, that never really dies, since they are a doctor or dancer, so clothes will only be needed for a change now and then.
I see happening to armorsmiths and weaponsmiths what already happened to architects. Their products are not needed in any amount, so the prices will go way down as will the oppertunity to be that profession in this game.
I wouldn't call it doomsday, but it won't be as good or diverse of a game as it is now.

your still missing my point. if this game is only geared for jedi then it will be out of business. this is a game where people pay per month to play. it has to be balacned to survive.

If you shouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell of killing a jedi with an army they shouldn't be controlled by players. Either that or no one should have a snowballs chance in hell of getting to be a jedi. As it is neither is the case. Fact is they screwed up with holocrons. Grinding 32 professions should have only been the beginning if you're going to give people ungodly power. Especially since almost all of them can be macro'd to some degree while afk (some completely). I really think those who have unlocked had it easy. They were pretty much told the way to go and although it was fairly long it wasn't particularly hard.
Under the new system those who want to remain competitive in pvp will start whatever the new jedi grind is immediately if they haven't unlocked yet. I'm guessing it will also be tougher to unlock under the new system. I think part of the reason for the jedi revamp is to slow the rate at which people are unlocking. MMOG's have a nasty habit of making certain things harder when people don't get in on the first wave. Face it, people don't want to be weaker than their peers. It doesn't make for a fun game if you don't have a chance at even scratching someone else just because you didn't grind or don't want to run around with a little glowstick, so naturally most will continue the jedi grind. Those who can't or don't want to will just be pvp fodder. The best we can hope for is JTL evening things up a little. Maybe that jedi could run macros and grind, but has no twitch skills so gets demolished in space.
There needs to be a compelling reason not to be a jedi. That doesn't necessarily mean ultimate pvp power. Making the life of a jedi harder might serve as a barrier to some, but not likely. The regular professions need something to make them attractive. As stated, some of the crafting professions will still be around, but if jedi are the ultimate in pvp and pve there is no reason to be anything else as a combat character except as a stepping stone to get to jedi.

not doing something you like is not an option. what happnes is if you cant do what you like then you dont pay for the game. the mroe and more that happens then what i said above will happen, the game will go out of business. my thoughts arent to nerf jedi into nothing, they are here so this game is here for a loing time.
also here is an example of non pvp situations. go to any of the highly populated servers and go to lets say the geo cave. you will find jedi in there killing every last thign and gettting all the loot rights. so now what shoudl i do ? not pve becausethe jedi is outdamaging me? should i justgo and hutn meatlumps? they dont have a tef and they cant be attacked so they dont have a care in the world. my jedi is 0 0 4 4 saber and all i have to do is stand in the middle of a pve mob and spam devish till i puke. i gaurantee you i will out damage you and get all the loot rights.
so now what options do i have. i cant pve in the fun spots because its being owned by jedi, i cant pvp because jedi might take the place of combat meds. at least with combat meds you can counter them with a doc. there is no counter for a jedi.
and 1 more thign i dont know if you armorsmiths noticed. all the armor is vulberable to lightsabers. you guys will be well out of business before i am as a weaponsmith.

There's a name for a class that is intentionally out of balance with other classes - it's called a gamebreaker. It didn't get that name by chance.
Even if JtL costs me my armorsmithing living, I'll welcome it with open arms if the devs stick to their promises that there will be no "skill" mods for Jedi in space combat. Let them have the horribly broken ground game, everyone else will be in space. Maybe then the devs will give the Jedi FRS points for slicing up the tumbleweeds that will blow past the Coronet starport.

"Everyone will be a jedi." This sounds great, up until you get to be one. I played a padawan over on Test Center 2 while it was up. I did not gain a single box. The XP requirements were insane. I was actually at -12,000 jedi XP when I gave it up.
Jedi is not for everyone. Many will look at Jedi and say, "This ain't worth it."
If anything, Space will change everything far more.
