Thread: Hit location how does it work?

I am trying to understand which armor parts get hit and how it works. I run into a thread (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Infinity&message.id=16703&page=2) that said you only have to use helmet, chest plate, boots and gloves and still have full protection against hits.

According to this message there are 4 hit locations:

Head (covered by helmet)

Chest (chest plate)

Arms (Gloves, biceps, bracers)

Legs (boots, pants)

If you wear any parts of these sections you would still get the AR1 bonus.

Also says that the resists is a weighted value depending on what you are wearing (if boots is counted as 33% of total leg armor you only get 33% of resits so 80% armor would only give you 26% resists)

Can anyone verify that this is true? I have always thought that there was a % chance to hit each part (highest for chest plate) and if that part is not covered you are unprotected. But the above looks to be true since people have reported that they get full protection even if not wearing all parts.

If this is true I think it work like this for hit calculation:

1) Attacker geta succesful hit (after defense mods etc takign into account)

2) System make a random roll for which body part is hit (with different probabilities for various sections, let say for chest it is 60%), i.e. head, chest, arms, or legs. I guess that if you use a directed special like head shotor leg shot you will always hit that part (head or legs).

3) System calculates average resists. Ley say it is a leg hit and thatpants are67% and boots 33%. On your boots you have 60% resists and on your pants 80%, that would mean weighted resists are 60x33% + 80x67%= 73,4%. If you were only wearing botts you would only get 60x33%=20% (btu still get AR1 reduction)

4) Total damage is reduced (first reduced or increased depending on AP-> AR bonus/penalty) by resists (leaving out mitigation, toughness of the equation since I am not sure when this is calculated an dtyo make it easier to understand). Let say 100 damage is going through

5) If there are multiple parts in the section hit a "roll" is made to determine which part is hit (different probabilities). Decay is made (and damage reported in combat log for that part). decay is a % of the damage passing through

What do you say? Have I got it right? Need to test this.

There is a stupid bug with the armor coverage that resulted from an ugly hack the DEV's used to fix the armor hole issue. Basicly if you wear a full suit, the system will send hits to the nearest armor peice available. This fixed the issue, but didn't fix the cause, ANYWAYS, the problem comes from what the system considers a full suit. It turns out that the system considers just wearing a helm, chest, boots and gloves a full suit. The legs and arm peices are not needed, and its possible to save the encum they bring and still have "full" armor protection.

So it is actually sending the hit to another armor part in same sectionbut still have full resists (not a weighted average)?

If you are wearing the arms and leggings they will take hits, but if you arn't the hits are shunted to other peices. One more thing, this only works with comp as far as i know.

I can't speak to the average thing, what I wear all has the same general resist range.

Why would this only work with composite and not other suits?
