Well its time for server reset. So i got nuthin' to do but bug my fellow smiths with my idiotic ideas.

I've been thinking...what good are uber rare special suits if they aren't better, or at least on par with Comp. If only very few people are going to have them, and they are no better as they are then why not give them a medium armor rating. I know it sounds insane, but to counter it SOE could ALSO lower the amount of effectiveness one could achieve when experimenting. In other words you'd have Med armor, BUT you'd only have a max value of 40% effect for special and base. This would only apply of course to the RIS and Mandalorian suits.

In addition to this somewhat barebones suggestion of an idea, currently AS has 7 suits they can make at master, one of which seems tied to Artisan Experimentation which scratches bone off the list (correct me if i'm wrong on this, haven't made bone in a long time). So six suits, essentially three low end, and three that should be decent suits. Only problem is that 2 of those three are actually marketable and useful, and only 1 suit is near perfect (composite). What i'm getting at with stating all this obvious stuff is that I dream of a day that they make a standard method to this madness and give these suits some sort of balance that makes them all useful.

The early suits, such as Mabari, Chitin, and Tantel are what i will touch on first.

Mabari to my knowledge doesn't generally reach very high resists (and rightly so, though it escapes me what the spec protect on it is). This should be the basic Energy special armor for the low end, being its the first thing you learn to make. The advanced segments should at least be able to reach 50% on protects (special and base). Edit: Perhaps make it weak to blast, stun and acid (see big three comment below).

Tantel needs to be a finished suit. I don't care if there were no arms or legs in the movies. I don't recall ever seeing composite in the movies at all anyway. So make something up SOE, and add the finishing touches to this suit. This suit should be what it was supposed to be, with resists to all, perhaps with one weakness (say maybe acid). Put heat in its special resist or something, but try not to use one of the biggies like Acid, Stun, or Blast (I call these biggies regarding their place as layers in the ASskill tree, not as they work in combat). My thinking towards heat resist had to do with the planet tat, and in addition, the fact that jabba's guards deal with Smugglers, who most likely in this game use a DX2 on the high end, and a FWG5 on the medium end.

Finally among these suits is Chitin, which i actually hold dear. It can already make decent pve armor with the ability to make it 50%+ special to Kinetic, with adv. segs of course. I think its pretty decent that way. Actually the only change i would make is minor, raising the possibility of base protect being equal to that 50%. Thats it for Chitin. Otherwise i'm happy with it the way it is. (i am sure with the best stuff and the exp bonus of tapes, one might be able to get decent base on these suits in its current incarnation).

Keep in mind none of these suits can be layered, making them less effective due to lack of flexibility. This is the primary reason they are the 'Low end' suits.

Now to the high end stuff.

Ubese is great for kinetic, and *can* have decent base along with high kinetic resist, though it requires a layer to push this to 80%. That works for me. I don't see much need to mess with it, though a higher base possible in the suit would make it stand up in the group a bit more, taking a place among the basic high-medium end suits (medium end in a world where Mando and RIS are Med Rated armor, yet still very rare).

Padded sucks. I have tried as much as i can to find a way to make this stuff a viable suit. It ain't happenin though. It never has good resists, relies too heavily on hide resources, not to mention specific resources that are hard to find in good qual (yavin wooly). The blast protect is fine for a special. It takes two layers in its adv. seg (if i remember right). The primary problem with it lies in its inability to sport decent resists, and still be cost effective as the suit below comp. If its gonna take so much organic stuff to make, it should be worth it, but as many AS know, Organics are one of our banes in the resource dept. Especially in a hologrind economy. It needs better potential in the resists dept. That is all for that.

Comp is fine the way it is, however, I have a suggestion for the GCW revamp. It will be a pain enough that most of us will have to buy Factional Armor Schematics (segs, armor pieces) from recruiters, that will most likely be limitied use.A great way to make these suits viable (marine armor and ST armor, craftable) is to make it NOT a different suit (saves us on time finding resources, rare items, all that garbage). I would be happy if it was just Comp with a different body style. If three versions of comp exist, three versions will be common. ST armor already fits the mold as it is supposed to be mass produces. Marine armor should be the same not necessarily because of continuity regarding Star Wars, but because it makes it a fair playing field. This would, in effect, make Comp the 'neutral mans armor'. The other two suits should be wearable only for the proper faction, though I don't know about whether they should maintain its needed overt status. Thats an easily circumvented game mechanic that just isn't worth maintaining imo. The other trick is whether an AS would have to be of the proper faction to craft it, but thats a split decision in my eyes. Neutral AS that want to make the armor would have to join a faction, and in essence enter the GCW regardless of whether they want to PVP or not. However, do we want to see this armor made by non factioned, or even enemy factioned, smiths, and sold for their financial advancement in a competitive economy?

All in all thats the gist of my ideas. A little long winded, and i'm pretty much already aware of the weaknesses and strengths of it in its current incarnation. I figured though, wth, share it with the group and see what ya'll think. so now its time to /discuss. Would love to see feedback on this, especially from a correspondant. It may be worth noting up the ladder to the Devs in lieu of the coming revamps (combat/gcw).
