Ok, i remember hearing that RIS armor could hold 3 layers, correct? Well on chilastra i finally was able to get a halmet made by a friend (yes, i actually have a piece of RIS), but it would only take 1 layer. Is this a mistake, or can helmets only hold one? an explanation would be great. thx- orm

No mistake, RIS segmentsthat's the only place to put layers, do only provide one layer.

Some things are just rumor... sometimes they just change things to try and "balance" the way things are. It was supposedly going to be medium armor (whether that was rumor or a change, I am not sure).. but no luck there either.

what is the difference in crafting RIS using the looted schematic ? i remember reading that it replaced the need for the GDK scale with a colored geo cube. aslo i remeber reading that the feather could be replaced by a NS armor layer.
this is what i have
1 interwoven schem
1 bone
1 hide
various cubes and NS layers
+ themined resources (metals etc)
1 very nice RIS certed AS
what else do i need to make 1 piece of RIS i.e Helmet/Leg armor
thanks for your time - be gentle

The interwoven schematic allows you to use 3 layers (intead of the standard 2 layers) and add a geo cube (red, green, yellow, white). You still need the scale. Oh how I wish it removed the scale requirement.
The feather is only needed if you want to craft RIS layers. You can use any type of layers in RIS armor. Kinetic, stun, acid, NS, ect. RIS layers have very low ham's (often negative) but the consensus seems to be that NS layers are the way to go, sometimes using stun or acid to fill those vulnerabilities.
