Thread: Force-Sensitive Armor Crafting: Preliminary Impressions

My in-game business partner doesn't really play his Jedi very often, so we took the occasion of Publish 9 to attempt some Force-Sensitive armor crafting. Leftover skillpoints from his Jedi's conversion were put into Master Armorsmith, and we took the Crafting Mastery lines of Force Sensitivity.

I used him last nightto craft a few segments and layers that needed to cook in the factories, and Ijust played around with the crafting a bit while doing so. I will do some more extensive testing tonightand keep some hard numbers, but here were my initial impressions:

  • You do NOT get an extra two points of experimentation, so the fear of 14-point smiths can rest. I had my standard 12 points to play around with.

  • Amazing successes are much more common, even without the use of Bespin Port or a Research Center. Oddly, my impressions were that I got an amazing success half the time outside the Research Center city, while only getting it 20-30% of the time in the city. Since my sample size is admittedly small, I will test this further tomorrow.

  • Assembly results were only "great" and "amazing," but this is standard for all Master Armorsmiths. I want to say that there were more "amazing" results than "great," but there is no numerical difference between the two.

  • I experienced no critical failures in either assembly or experimentation, but failures were already pretty darn rare with +21 assembly and +20 experimentation clothing mods, so I'm hesitant to say that the FS mods did anything for this

  • I repaired an old suit of Ubese and experienced no failures, with about an even split of "minor blemishes" and "max condition has been reduced." Will do much more extensive testing on this tomorrow, also while using +24 Amor Repair mods. I do a LOT of armor repair for friends and business associates, so this one's a bit close to my heart.

  • The net result of FS crafting is that I was able to get a triple-amazingsegment schematic in five tries, where previously I'd settle for a single- or double-amazing schematic in 10-20 tries. (I should note that the second amazing success was irrelevant to the net result, as it was just a single box that would have been filled with a normal "great" success.)

So really, it's nothing for existing armorsmiths to fear. Depending on how diligent you are with your schematic crafting with Bespin Port, Research Centers, etc, you can pretty easily get the same or similar results. The FS crafter just gets them faster, and depending on the diligence, might shave off an extrapoint or two of HAM.

The onlyreal boonI'd seewith the FS crafters is in the niche market for handling looted components. Theoretically fewer critical failures and more amazing successes in experimentation makes them a more ideal choice for handling NS components and RIS. The repair bonuses may also prove beneficial.

  • Again, I'll try to have some hard numbers soon.

Wipes sweat off forehead...was worried about that..

For those forcesenstive skill I wsh they were more detailed in what they actually do for anything. Like luck....does that increase the chances of looting something?

Getting 3 amazings is very difficult and as you said you hope for 2 but often settle for 1.12 points ofamazings is like having 4 points of amazings and9 of great success. So for the common crafter, FS is more like 13 points unless you try hard for those 2 amazings. Even then the FS is still better. On the rare occurance you get to that level.

The reports of increased crit failures is distrubing though. They may have nerfed everyone else and had the FS brought up to the old level. That is rather annoying if true.

Being that +120 armor experimentation which is 12 points. Did you try to be a 10 point armorsmith without skill taped clothesand see if you get any bonus. Maybe because you are maxed, you don't get any bonus. This could mean the skill tape could become meaningless.

Forgot to mention in my initial post that without my mods, I only had 10 points. So the FS mods don't add to the number of experimentation points in the least bit.
