Ok, so I married (IC) a wonderful 12-point and RIS-certified Armorsmith, Tess Ainwyn, on the Kettemoor server recently. She and I have discussed that we wanted to make me a full suit of RIS, and last night we finally got to make 5 pieces (thanks to the donation of some GDK scales, thanks Ann!). I think they turned out fantastic, and wanted to show off her work. Maybe some people have made better (though I think you'd be hard-pressed to find many, but I don't keep up with them here *shrug*), but I think it's worthy of showing off.
We used a 14.5K green cube for condition, one 14% / -9 NS layer, two 7% / -5 NS layers, andone exceptional NSshard (-45/-32/-37)in each segment for the helm, chest, leggings, and boots. In the gloves we had to use all 7% / -5 NS layers as I only had 4 of the 14% ones, plus we had to use a lesser shard (-25 / -17 / -19 I believe). I had her focus on kinetic (being a master swordsman I need kinetic protection the most), then base, and encumbrance if possible. I don't know exactly how she did it, but it came out excellent, IMO, and worthy of bragging about.
Here are the fruits of her labor:
Helm:
Condition: 59878/59878, 3 sockets, 80% kinetic, 66% base, 0 / 0 / 142 encumbrance
http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=114149
Chestplate:
Condition: 59959/59959, 4 sockets, 80% kinetic, 66% base, 168 / 21 / 0 encumbrance
http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=114150
Leggings:
Condition: 59878/59878, 3 sockets, 80% kinetic, 68% base, 28 / 120 / 0 encumbrance
http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=114151
Boots
Condition: 59897/59897, 4 sockets, 80% kinetic, 59% base, 0 / 1 / 0 encumbrance
http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=114153
Gloves:
Condition 59897/59897, 4 sockets, 80% kinetic, 62% base, 8 / 3 / 0 encumbrance
http://www.imagedump.com/index.cgi?pick=get&tp=114154
All total: 204 / 145 / 142 encumbrance on something equal in many respects to composite, and a much better condition even. Amazing how some people feel it is just a showpiece, I'd wear this in combat, easily...if I wasn't afraid of decay and the cost of replacingat the moment!
A rifleman's dream with the low mind encumbrance, too bad I'm melee...
Pic of me wearing it (yes, my lekku have vanished...stupid bug!):

Thanks again, Tess, for all the hard work you put into this set (took more than a few hours to do), it's truly a work of art, IMHO.

Nice don.... just some other way in making Green cubes
gives some kick ass Condition to a Suit...
btw I made a new Helmet look in sig
.... alo made a chestplate that shoud turn out in 80/80% with 152/5/0 Enc..... but got a damn 2 times Critical fail on Special resist en Quality in the experiment ... onle got to 64% base....
but I must say I wish I got those damn nice shards but I got lucky on the Red cubes

The encombance and condition is just amazing on those pieces. One has to wonder if the kinetic isn't over done though. You got a +28 to base with those layers. Most peices I've seen that had a good boost to the base in the +25-30 range manage to get the 80% kin and 80% base. I can understand making damn sure you hit that 80% kin mark, but it seems maybe lost some on the base. My experience on RIS is a bit limited though.

So what was your + total to the base from your layers to hit 80/80 then?
And a better question, do you remember what the base and kinetic %were on the segment used in those pieces?

He used 3 NS layers
I used for the parts in sig
3xNS layer (he uses lesser layers)
1xShard (he got better shards)
1xRedcube (used green cubes, 95% of the RIS builders use Yellow to ad 5% extra base)

Cant and wont tell this at the moment.... simply because every RIS smith have to make is own formula I think, giving people new things to experiment with is why I make some remarkt. I made around 10 pieces to test on to make it perfect I got surtenly all date when my suit is finished I tell you.
Other thing is that where both on different servers Resourse do a great Deal in making some good RIS our Segment Resourse are Bad on Eclips so porberly other servers can make mutch beter stuff.
I even have lookt for NS layers the lvl you absoluut not need to experiment on the Base resesitent in the segment and final assembly this gives a lot of experiment points free to lower the Enc
On the Helmet I uses 15% Layers they where overdon a lot so I got a number of points over to lower the Enc

Mmmm green cube RIS.
I made some 79-80% kin/ 79-80% basepieces with NS layers and green cubes awhile back. Nice stuff.

I should have documented the process better, but... well... It was actually only my 2nd time doing any RIS (other than the quest) and in oppostite pieces to the ones I did the day before and with a different requested experimentation.
I was concerned with hitting 80% kinetic since the layers only had base and I didn't know know how much native kinetic RIS has (without any experimentation into kinetic). Unfortunately one cannot do a lot of tests with RIS to see how it responds to thus and so experimentation.
Actually... I think the shards (at the level they were) were a bit of overkill. Nothing was put into encumbrance in the experimentaition phases, the reduction came entirely from the shards. The pieces would probably be negative, if they could be. But... again, not something that one could run tests to ascertain the best result.
I also had one sort-of recreatable glitch. When I was finishing experimenting on the semgent which went into the boots, I put in the last 4 points and hit run experimentation. Just at that moment I got an email and my client froze for a moment, as it frequently does, and I was at the screen asking if I wanted to make a prototype or factory schematic. It -ate- my last 4 points of experimentation (it happened exactly the same way the next night when I was working on something entirely mundane). I haven't bugged it yet, mostly because I wanted to see it happen again to make sure I wasn't imagining it (I'm not, I assure you).
Oh... and I started seeking and hoarding RIS resources from shortly before I made master AS *laugh*.

It would be nice to know the conversion factor from the segment to the final piece so we know what numbers to hit on the segment so we don't go over or under when making these.
