Thread: Armorsmith vendors...

How many vendors does an armorsmith need? I would assume 2 at least, 1 for Comp and one for other (Padded, Ubese and other lesser sold items), with 3-4 being ideal (for PSGs etc...). Looking at the newest list for Merchant, would it be safe to assume I wouldn't kill business with 4 vendors with 1250 items across them?

For the Bare Minimum, I need:
Artisan 4000
Brawler 0040
Novice Scout
MSwordsman
MArmorsmith

That leaves 51 SP. I think I need 2 vendors in the least, and at least 2 ranks of Surveying. So that's Artisan 4042 now, with 32 points left... Are ad-barkers worth the SP to get there? Merchant 4000, with which I could get to 4002, and have 5 vendors, with 1750 items across it, allowing me to have 2 Comp vendors, 1 PSG vendor, 1 'lesser armor' vendor, 1 loot vendor, which seems like it'd work, and I can take 1 in Hunting from Scout to up my harvesting...

Bah! I don't wanna drop Swordsman for crafting, and I don't wanna drop crafting for pure combat, so i try to make a balance... Now I have the problem of deciding whether to harvest hides, albeit probably slower yet cheaper than buying them, or simply upping my resource finding abilities or dropping scout altogether and getting more Merchant...... Any help?

tell me again why people insist on getting surveying?

ad barkers are a waste

to have a successful business starting out...

either

A) become the guild armorsmith.....youprovide your guild with cheap armor, they help with hides and resources, you set up shop and sell extra stuff to the public, you still make money from guildies, but not as much.....but their help with resources and hides will let you get the resources you need for more public sales

B) have a good location, I am sure onyour server there are plenty of shops in coronet/theed/bestine I promise that there are player cities on your server that do not have a city armorsmith. Post on your trade forum that you are new master and want to provide a player city with armor. Chances are someone will bite and you can move to a town and probably go into a mall that already has some other local crafters.

novice merchant with the new system will get you three vendors, which should be more than enough for a new guy.

Because they want to.

Not entirely. Mine is used to tell customers what I am wanting to buy from them.

This is great for progressing in your profession, but not necessarily guaranteed to give you a succesful business.

I have found that location is the single most important factor when setting up a shop. Aside from the major cities, I would suggest some active but smaller cities, such as Mos Eisley, Kor Vella, and Moenia.

Because they want to. WHY? this guy is pinched for skill points, just run an extra 20 meters when surveying

Not entirely. Mine is used to tell customers what I am wanting to buy from them. No they are not entirely a waste, but most people ignore these, also you can afk shout too

People go to Kor Vella and Moenia? j/k I think a player city with no AS gives you much better chance for success, besides coronet, the busiest cities on our server are all player cities.

that was interesting, while arguing with me on my points, you basically agreed with me too

I have surveying on all my armorsmiths. I prefer to pay .3 cpu for all my resources, rather than 5 or 6 in shift, and 20 the next week, siiighhh. I spend my cash on buying hides, rather than the minables. At survey 1, you rarely see where the concentration goes up. Survey 2 is workable, but barely ( I tend to get turned around, and again, hard to see which direction the concentration is moving to). I prefer to use survey 3 or 4. On one char I was lucky enough to buy the skilltapes for survey, so have 3 with 4 capability.

Not all guilds will help, or help is sporadic. I've been in one guild that had regular help, and only when I was paying going market rate plus.

If you advertise AND STAY STOCKED, you can set vendors up anywhere. Do try to pick a planet that isn't 4 shuttle hops. Barking is good for telling people what you are buying, or when you last restocked, but not worth 5 skill points by itself. It's just handy if you are going to advertise on the map anyway.

While i've done both, and have received slightly better results with afk-shouting (unsure why, maybe the delayis set to a slightly faster rate than a preset/unadjustable droid bark speed). The droid does help me notify when I restock, am looking for current resources (extremely helpful), or if I have lowered some prices. I now perfer using the droid mainly because while its barking away, I can be off hunting, crafting, or anything else I feel like doing and my name is still getting out to the public.

I think he meant vendors that bark, not the droids. Good points though... even though I despise AFK shouting, and most of the peopel I see doing it get ignored by me
