a sticky for this would be good, so hopefully it reduces at least 50% of the posts about 12pt smiths, the other 50% people dont know what stickies are

Lol thanks guys... I know people have posted this info inside other threads where people have questions, I figured it'd be better to make an actual thread with the info in it... (btw love the flash about how to post... now that should be a stickie in our forum)

For clarification sake, when refering to how many points an armorsmith is given to experiment with, the word "Dot(s)" will replace the word "Point(s)"

Definition

12dot Armorsmith, is a person who has 12 dots to use in the experimentation process of crafting. A Full Fledged Master of the profession is given a total of 10dots to start out with, the one, and only way to become a 12dot Armorsmith, is to use Skilltapes, and Special Looted Clothing...

How to get there

While going up the technique tree, each box grants the userAnumeric addition in these two categories Armor assembly, Armor Experimentation. For every +10 points gained in Armor Experimentation, 1 Dot is awarded to the Armorsmith, hence +40 Points for Techniques 3 & 4= Four Dots of Experimentation Gained.

Now the process works by after hitting master you have a total of +100 in Armor Experimentation, and Armor Assembly. In order to gain an extra Two Dots for experimentation you need to accumulate a total of at least +20points in Armor Experimentation, this can be done by the following3 ways.

1. Using Armor Experimentation Modded Clothing- This Clothing can only be looted, there is nothing that can be crafted to have these modifications included in. *I have noticed that the higher level mobs, such as Tuskan Observers, and such, tend to drop modded clothing, many times +7 Armor Experimentation Tuskan Gloves... The great thing about the looted clothing, is that all Modifications, that are displayed will in fact take effect.

2. Skill Enhancement Tapes- These tapes can be inserted into socketed clothing to bring about the desired effect... A couple quickrules that I know on these... when a skill tape has 2 or more Mods to it, the Highest modification takes precedence. When a skill tape has 2 or more modifications that are holding the same value (I.e. +25Armor Experimentation, +25 Rifel Crawl Speed While Moving) the modification, that is Alphabetically first, takes precedence (in this case it would be the Armor Exp).

3. A combination of the two-

The idea with this is to get a complete +20-25 Armor Experimentation/Assembly within the clothes used...

The Difference Between Armor Experimentation, and Armor Assembly

There has always been a debate between armorsmiths with what the difference between the Experimentation and the Assembly aspect of enhancements are... It is the belief of myself, as well as the armorsmiths that I work with that the following holds true. Unfortunatly because there is no "Official Word" that I can find as of yet... here are the two sides...

1st Side

Armor Experimentation- Affects the amount of Dots that are given to a crafter to experiment with, as well as his chance of "Amazing Sucesses" while experimenting

Armor Assembly- Affects the chance that there will be an "Amazing Success" on the initial combine... but more importantly it reduces the amount of possible critical failure on the initial combine, making sure that the crafter is able to retain his resources, loot pieces.

2nd Side- There are others however that have performed close to the same tests, in one case, an Armorsmith, ran a test, which you can see on the first page of this thread by Kueller where he performed a test which came up that the Armor Assembly tapes gave a 13% Increase on "Amazing Success" results during the experimentation stage... I will be performing some more extensive tests over the next several weeks, as well as try to contact some of the Developers, since Jaato hasn't gotten back to me yet.

* The Armorsmiths do not have a Crafting Apron/Toolkit or any other type of craftable clothing that gives mods to Armor Experimentation/Assembly

**If you decide to put together an Exp/Assembly suit, realize that it will be very expensive if you plan on buying everything... For example, on Bria there are two suits for sale, one that, as I write this is going for 35million, and another one that is holding a selling price of 70million...

***Skill tapes, and modded clothing normally drop off high end mobs, such as Tuskan Observers, Nightsister Elders, and such....

Alright I hope this clears some things up, questions comments? things to add? lay it down underneath...

I think most of us get the assembly in order to reduce initial crit failures, rather than initial amazings. I have yet to see a difference in intial combine result from great to amazing.

There is some misleading info here.
Armor assembly affects your chance for an Amazing experimentation, as well as reducing the chance of a critical failure on the initial combine. Armor experimentation ONLY affects how many "dots" you have, it does nothing to affect your chances for an amazing experimentation.

I think the confusion on this point comes from the fact that there are foods that you can eat. Pyollian cake (gives an "armor assembly" bonus) reduces the chance for a critical failure on the initial combine.
Bespin Port on the other hand gives a bonus to "Armor Experimentation", and it affects your chance for an amazing success during experimentation.

These foods do not modify skills we already have, they simply add a modifier to the rolls of our next crafting attempt, do not be suckered into believing the armorsmith skill mod armor experimentation will get you more amazing successes.

Keuller,

As I posted in the orginal post, that there is a controversy surrounding what armor assembly/experimentation I stated what Myself, and several other 12 point smiths hold to be true. I personall own a +21 Armor Assembly belt which I use. I have been using this belt for the last month and a half, and I have noticed absolutely no difference between Amazing, and Great Successes on the experimenting roll, this has included me crafting in a research center, outside of one, with food and drink, and without food and drink...

I have however, noticed that on the initial combine I achieve less critical fails, and more amazing successes on the initial combine...

Finally lets just take a quick look at the name "Armor Assembly" the word Assembly denotes an initial combine of said item. Also the process in which we change the stats and everything is called the Experimentation Stage... so, with that being said, wouldn't it make sense that Armor Experimentation Tapes affect that portion of crafting regarding both Amazing Sucesses, and the Amount of Dots?

My bespin port gives +11 to "Armor Experimentation"...why do I not get 13 "dots"?
Ahh, yeah, because the names do not always have the same meaning, or the meaning you'd expect them to have.

I came to my conclusions after a set of 200 trial (1pt) experimentations. 100 with +104 armor assembly/+120 armor experimentation and 100 with +125 assembly/+120 armor experimentation. I got 18% more amazing successes with +125 assembly than with +104. 13% vs 31%.

I don't care what you believe, but it would be nice if you'd explain the controversy better than simply saying that some sort of disagreement exists. You didn't explain the opposing viewpoint, so I felt I had to.

Alright, first I updated the original post, in an attempt to present both sides of the argument (I'll try to expand it some more, after doing some research)...

Second... not sure how much sense this makes (I'm a little tired atm and going to bed) But, you are asking why your +11bespin port doesnt give you 13 "dots" even though the title, is that it is adding to the experimentation... well the thing is, the bespin port is adding to the Experimentation Stage of crafting on the rolls, they just aren't allowing you to have the 13 "dots" However, until some hard evidence comes out... there are options... Alright, I am now officially tired, and going to bed....
