do these still drop from the kimo town poi?
and also
where is the best place to look for static kimo spawns?

Yes they do drop from the static poi. random spawns seem to be most frequent for me around the big mountain in the southeast.

Does the static spawn in the kimo village drop them, or does it have to be wild spawns?

TOO OFTEN!!! 
Sorry, this is coming from a veteran player who killed 300+ gdk's to get enough scales for 1 suit. GDK #3 and #321 actually dropped the loot (yeah I kept a record). I lived onLOK for 6 months. This was prior to the CU and the changes in the loot tables. Now I'm told 1/8 or 1/10 drop? I went to Kimo Town once and the first gdk I saw gave me 6 scales.

I got 54 in one day. About2 or 3hours work. I was so happy, I went out again and again. I got to 65 then they stopped dropping. Haven't got any in about 60 kills. I'll hunt som more eventually. But I can't be arsed right now.
