This actually happens with ALL armor components.
I've crafted a RIS segment to use in the RIS quest, and it broke when i got one-hit killed by a voritor on the way there. Also, you can't use the last core in a stack of looted cores if you die with them in your inventory (they decay too).

I've been buying core stacks from the bazaar and keep having to remember that when it says it contains 7 cores only 6 of them will be useable. I don't think I'll bother with the RIS quest unless the decay problem is fixed, being only CL1 I'd have to buy the loot parts and its impossible to know if they will actually work or not!

I had a similiar experince (no respone from CSR's) when I had an item "poof" in my inventory....

Adding my namein support of this, too.I have some unusable cores now and I highly doubt that they will do anything about it. My experience with the CSRs is that 95% of them are total idiots who just want to be able to say they closed a ticket, and the other 5% are getting burnt out from having to do their own jobs, plus fix the tickets the idiots closed.

Try the repair kit workaround to the decayed segment?I don't have one and I am stuck at work or I would go in game to test it.
Imaridril from Starstrider fixed the last of the unstacked cores and was able to use them in crafting by using an armor repair kit on them. The also give the "damaged" message when you try to use them and so it was suggested to try the repair tool on decayed segements. Update if someone can test this.
