Thread: 1 day to make the good schematics then the whiners win
Overall, the resists would be greater than pre-patch, at the cost of higher HAM and lower condidtion.
I agree, in part, HAM is now irrelevant, but given that fact that this patch would have affected all facets of the crafting community, I feel this change would have completely wiped out any chance for a casual gamer/novice/new master to be able to come close to putting up the numbers you would have been able to attain with the new patch. Long time Masters with the best resources the server has seen, would keep their stranglehold on the market and disallowing newer competition from entering.
Name-calling and finger pointing will not change the forseen outcome that a majority of the crafters agreed would happen. Please keep in mind, a MAJORITY of the crafters ingame DO NOT have the resources, means, or time that would be needed to compete if this patch had gone through unchecked. That is why a MAJORITY of crafters were against this.
Granted, as the old saying goes, "You get out of it, what you put into it", however, in order to keep subscriptions up, the devs need to make crafting AND combat enjoyable, otherwise, this game will no longer exist within 2 years. This "nerf" had the potential to make combat harder due to higher HAM, lowered duration of buffs, lowered duration of food (or higher filling). Thus, making this game "less enjoyable", resulting in cancelled subscriptions; meaning lower profits for SOE.
If this patch were to become permanant, established Masters would have no problem producing higher resists with comprable HAM's, but newer Masters would sell a suit a week or at a much lower profit margin due to their armor's lower resists and outrageously higher HAM.
So, you tell me, is this crafting change, which affects ALL CRAFTERS, better for the community and the MAJORITY of the player base? Or, just good for the established 12 point/playing since launch/100 million in the bank Masters? I'm thinking the latter.
The whiners won't win.
They will loose big time..
Because those of us that believed in the patch will make so many schematics that they will not see the end of it....
Anyway I will run extensive tests on layers tomorrow and post my findings once I am done....
I expect better layers because I was already spending 10 pts on ham for layers...
Layers experimented to 100% ham, here I come !!!!!!!!!!

If this doesn't convince you that this patch was bad for the community, nothing will...
Vigeant,
Give me a break. If the change had stayed in the devs might as well get rid of all the crafters and install vending machines. There would be NO new crafters because who can afford to grind from Novice Artisan to Master Armorsmith without selling anything? With this system crafting would become a very simple brute force process. He who has the most experimentation points wins. Or he who has played the longest and has the largest horde of old resources wins. I've been here since day one and I have the resources to prove it but I still think this change would have been a huge disaster.
Yeah, a few people made 100.0 repair tools compared to 99.8% before the patch, 44.5 crafting stations compared to 44.34 before the patch. Who cares?
I've been a master armorsmith on Wanderhome for months. You're right most Bounty Hunter, TKA, and Commando PvP'ers don't care about HAM, everyone else does.

Coming from both sides, I am a 10point master armorsmith/ pistoleer. I currently wear sliced 80% kinetic 70% base armor. Anyone care to guess the encumberance? That's right! INSANE HAM costs... to my memory, I have about 930:870:930health:action: mind encumberance, this of courseis just a side effect of high protection armor, THERE IS NO WAY around the ham costs of high resist armor.... PERIOD. Ask any armor crafter who creates 80% kinetic armor if the armor's ham cost is below 800 a stat 99.9% of the time IT WONT.
Since I dislikecrafting 24/7, I hunt with my armorsmith/pistoleer and a group of friends. I admit I'm not the best, thus the reason why I have armor,THE ONLY WAY toweararmor of this caliber is to BE BUFFED AND USE MUON AND/ORBRANDY. If you guys wish to be using specials, you ABSOLUTELY CANNOT avoid being buffed, unless you want a certain pool on the verge of incapping yourself.Automatically, this statuseliminates at least 50% of the people who play who cannot afford to be buffed every 3 hours.
My point is, if you cannot tolorate the sacrifice of 6-8k every 3 hours for your hunting trip (thatusually pays for buffs and travel tickets)with your high resist armor, then you're SOL. This high resistarmor IS NOT FOR EVERYONE.
