I love this game as well, hitting the cancel button just isn't an option for me at this time. I still have hope, bleak it might be but there is hope........

Does anyone have that contact info? If anyone does please post it in here.

The game has been borked since Day 1. For over a year now all I've heard is a "Combat (Insert your name of the month here)". "String em along, string em along..." "And while you are waiting, why don't you buy these 2 expansion packs we've been working real hard on." Whatever guys. I don't do business with folks who treat me like dirt. Bottom line. If a company wants my money, they have to EARN it. And lying to me, making me false promises, deleting my posts when I raise a concern, locking my posts when they want what I have to say to go away, taking away my ability to have a sig... I could go on forever. Screw this, I have better things to do with my time and money thanks.

But good luck folks, I wish you the best.

Here is my email, without the personal history I've had with SWG attached, so it may feel like it's lacking an Introduction

Now to theproblems.

The Combat Upgrade/Re-Balance (CURB as it's commonly referred to) has been over a year in the making. But the lies go back as deep as the very humblest beginnings of a "CURB". We were told that this massive update was to come around roughly a year ago. When it didn't make it's original date, we were staved off withput-offs and excuses until people stopped questioning about this "CURB" anymore. Whenother issues (for example, lack of content) plagued the game, we were ignored orbanned when wespoke about them and then were told lies to about upcoming fixes and content. A great example (and though I don't play a smuggler, I feel their pain) is the Smuggler Re-vamp.There is a wonderful post on the forums documenting the lies that the player-base was told about this revamp for a Smuggling profession that can't really 'smuggle'. It can be found here- http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=smuggler&message.id=81983 . Lies and put-offs were used until only the fact that the game resembled Star Wars kept everyone from canceling their subscriptions and leaving the game. I know this because it's how I felt.

Star Wars galaxies faced a more dangerous problem for the game than bugs or glitches, it had unbalanced professions. One person with a mastery in a certain elite combat profession, evenafter exhausting all strategic improvements the game offers, just could not beat the others. And thus, thescale was tipped and diversity became less and less common. Player-Versus-Player ("PvP") combat became ajoke. And so, the CURB was brought back up, much to SOE's dismay. So the roller-coaster ride began anew, fresh with more lies and more put-offs. But this time it didn't fade away, and they actually produced what they call a "Combat Upgrade". While listening to some player input, the Developers would not move their stances on certain things, and player input also became a joke.

But to give a more in-depth idea of the problems with the CURB, I will list the problems again, unfortunately without forum posts to cite. I wouldn't want to send you links to posts that have since been deleted. Here are a few:

  • The Icons- Nice, colorful icons were developed for the new and old actions. The artwork is beautiful, but too messy for quick thinking. The majority of player feedback has said that they enjoy the nice icons, but they are too hard to recognize on the fly when you hope to push a button fast. The old two-color icons weren't flashy, but you always knew which attack you were performing with only a slight glance. Many have suggested an option to switch back and forth between new and old icons. SoE recently said there will be no such option in their chat with Stratics when the question was prompted.

  • Level System- One of the most unique things about Star Wars Galaxies was the skill-based system. It was a break from the tiring old level system of other RPG's. The CURB introduces a level system to operate along with the Skill System. According to the majority of posts I have read concerning the system, people are the most unhappy with the damper on strategy it creates. There is a penalty to attacking a creature if you have a lesser level than it. The penalty is the same whether you are one level below it or twenty, and it means that the quality of your goods and weapons no longer makes an important difference in combating a harder enemy.

  • Crafting- Some of the worst complaining as of late has been from the "Crafting" professions, namely the Armorsmiths, who are directly affected by this change to the system. They claim that the lessened importance of Armor, as well as the lessened control they have over the quality of their armor, takes the fun out of crafting. Essentially, it means that there is no variety- no way to become better than your opponent using strategic means. Eventually the end-game will be having the capped armor with a mastered profession and some nice bonuses, and you're set. So, naturally, hundreds of people will all look, act, and fight the same way, inevitably leading to boredom. Also, crafters find that they cannot fight off the creatures they encounter, making it near impossible to grow their character when they are required to face these creatures daily.

  • Graphics- The CURB introduces some very interesting flashy actions performed when your character makes a move. Flashing lights, loud noises, and gunshots that sound nothing like Star Wars. This issue is less about gameplay than it is about Star-Warsy-ness.

  • Healing- Prior to the CURB, healing relied on objects called "StimPacks" that were crafted by medics and doctors. Each time a doctor/medic healed someone, it would use one 'use' on the Stimpack. The new CURB system allows healing without stimpacks, making healing seem almost magical- a very non-Star-Warsy element (Unless of course it were a Jedi).

There are many more issues that have yet to present themselves and many more I didn't include. So this makes me wonder, why haven't you guys at Lucasarts noticed this trickery? And then it hits me, you've most likely been lied to as well. I believe this because of things like SOE President John Smedley's letter to the "Community", stating that there has been very "Positive Feedback" concerning the implementation of the CU on the TestCenter server.

Smedley:

"In Austin, our Star Wars Galaxies™ team is focused on a big change to the game's combat system. The "Combat Upgrade" is now live on the SWG test server, and it's getting very positive feedback from the SWG playerbase."

When I saw this comment I nearly spat out the Orange Juice I was drinking. An official poll, set up by SOE on their forum site (Impossible to vote more than once, believe me, I made sure) had extremely negative results from players when asked to rate the CURB on a scale of 1-5. I would absolutely love to post the results of that poll, but ever since the letter was released, the results of the poll and the poll itself have been curiously nowhere to be seen. As I remember it when I first voted, around 75% of the votes were "1". From posts I've seen on the forums, that number got higher in the last few days, when some of the leveling and armor issues were introduced. The current poll created by SOE asks whether or not you would recommend Star Wars Galaxies to a friend. The results of this poll, so far with nearly 1000 votes are as follows:

No (77%)

Yes (15%)

Undecided (8%)

It is sad to see such propaganda and counter-productivity going on in the name of Star Wars. Please, Lucasarts, intervene and make sure these people get it right. I love Star Wars. I enjoy SWG. Make these people, whose game bears your name as well as theirs, do their job correctly so that the rest of us die-hard Star Wars fans can enjoy our one shot of being a 'part' of Star Wars.

Thank you for taking the time to read this email, and I appreciate anything that you guys can do to help.

Also,a final note: I went back and checked the forumpost where I found this address after writing this; it has been deleted.

And you think writing to LA is gonna solve your problems???

--- Reposted from another thread here ---

I'm quite sure LA knows exactly everything that's going on here.

And furthermore, I don't think they care either, they prolly care less than SOE does.

Think about it: Cash money in the bank for LA, SOE does all the work (well...).

Really the only way for you all to win here is to hit the cancell button, and walk away.
Good luck.
