UH-RAW,

Finally something worth getting out of this jedi crap other than the glowing gimp stick. I see not a widening of so called professions but a reward to those who gutted it out, wether luck, all 32 whatever. That is gonna rock, Also make food/buffs/weapons/ that much better. I understand the argument on why should the people who unlocked get the cool stuff, But in this game only thing rewarding i have seen for hard work, ARE these bonuses. Why shouldnt Force sensitive crafters be out there? Granted i feel sorry for a 10 point smith, but then again, armor is all about resources. AT this stage of the game, the extra points make a difference but 80% on the ham. With the current game mechanics buffs/foods/ who cares about enc.

But in the combat revamp, then the difference between 10 and 14 point may be ALOT, but then again how do you reward someone who has accomplished alot in the game??.

Because it hoses the newcommers. Anyone who just became armorsmith and have a hard time anyway because of limited resources. Now they will probably have to fight a 4 point experimentation gap as well.

Wouldn't this give a penalty to the oldtime smiths? The ones that picked up the profession and stuck to it? None of us will most likely have the FS-slot at publish 9, so we will not gain any bonuses until pub 10 at the earliest. While the Jedi that picked up armoursmithing to fund their pearl and crystalpurchases thrive?

Or am I mistaken on when the changes will appear?

So what would the point of becoming a MAS and gaining skill tapes if it didnt give you benifits?

When i started AS i started it because i was genuinly intrested in the the art of crafting armor, i worked my way up selling what i could make when i could make it.

now i am a MAS i work to gather the best resources i can. thisis half the battle of making great armour as we all well know, i want to get my +20 skil tapes, i want to make the best armour i can, not to compete, although i do take an interest in what others make but more often than not, its pretty much on par with what i can make, 12point smiths excepted. No matter what i make as long as its not priced out of this world it sells.

Being a newcomer should not be easy, working to become a MAS(that understands his profession)is hard and so it should be.

This is really sad, sometimes makes me wonder if the devs actually play their own game.

Last I checked there is nothing that prevents anyone here to just move and get that extra +2...

Maybe if you guys were a little less negatives and actually looked at the bright side.

Something for masters AS and it's not gonna cost millions to get like tapes...

*cheer*

This exactly how I feel about it. I have quite a few folk (not just in my city or guild) who tell me I make great armor mostly because, from day 1, I have cared about finding good resources and making the best I could from what I could find and refining how I experiment to maximise what I have. I have done brisk and steady business since I was 1/0/0/4 because of it. I am now an 11 point smith and my armor keeps getting better as I keep playing with things to see how I can make it better (without relying on enhancers to do so). I am most of the way to getting my other point from tapes as well. I am also, with the help of my guild and city, RIS certified. I look forward to the continuing challenge that becoming a force sensitive smith will offer. It's a quest (and I love quests) that will further boost my abilties. No one is demanding I do the quest (other than me), but to be the best I can, I will. Tess, my character, won't really think of it as force powers (she was brought up to think it's some hokey old religion with some sort of mind halucintation/manipulation effect) but as getting deeper in tune with her armor and delving into its secrets more.

As for competing... I agree that resources has faaaar more to do with how good the majority of your armor is than experimentation points. Those smiths that bother to pay attention to all the stats will have better armor than the ones who only look at a high OQ/SR (and believe that no one looks at HAM). Paying attention to what is spawning and looking for old stock on vendors and the bazaar are far more of a seperator. That won't change unless they completely and utterly nerf crafting and have resources without any stats.

The main thing about competing that won't change is attitude. If someone is a hollow (err holo) smith who is trying to make a buck fast without really bothering to learn the intricasies, he's armor will still suck, even if he has +2 from FS. If someone is trying to make the best armor he can from the beginning, his armor will still be good and will improve and will eventually be great. Most likely that person would go the "extra mile" for FS crafting and tapes without even breaking stride.

For those so concerned about the competition, just remember... it's only pixel money. No matter how much you have, it won't pay your phone bill, your power bill, your car payment, your rent or mortgage. It's only good for stuff in-game and how much of that do you -really- need?

That way everyone at some point is put on a level playing field and the difference between crafters goes back to the work they put into finding and keeping the best resources. Skill tapes still have a place - they get you the extra skill points earlier and faster, and potentially free up FS skills for other things.

I have a bad feeling about this.

Um, wouldn't it be on a level playing field with the extra two FS points?

Actually, I'm freaking excited about these FS enhancements. Combined with faction armor, this might actually let me feel as if I'm playing IN STAR WARS! These extra two points won't mean much in the way of unbalancing since out of all the Master AS, how many have 12 points? Do those smiths make it impossible for 10 point smiths to sell armor? No they don't. I sell all the armor I make and I turn a nice profit doing so. So, with the VERY FEW 14 point smiths, there won't be much of a difference at all. I don't see 10 points smiths packing up shop, nor do I see the 12-ers going. If the going does get tough, then those 10 point smiths will have to buy skill tapes or go FS. Armorsmiths that spend more time/money on their trade will make better armor (that includes resources hunting).

All this does is add more of a Star Wars feel to the games and raises the bar on armor crafting. I welcome the change. The devs did good.

You are thinking in the current buffed beyond belief mindset. Instead use the post combat balance mindset of reduced buffpower and changed functionality of ham. It might be very, very important to find armor that has significantly lower HAM for their stats than other armor especially when armor might be on the borderline of beeing useful at all.

Even if it turns out that a single point of experimentation makes a huge difference, how does the FS crafting NOT put us on a level playing field? If anything it balances it more since it's not based on luck of the loot drop to get over those 10 points.

EXACTLY! I don't see why everyone is up in arms about this... Anyone can get the extra +2 INCLUDING non-masters. So that way at Expert Armorsmith with FS crafting and only +5 in tapes you could be a 10 point armorsmith making some good armor. People just fear change, though they come to the boards to complain about how things are now...

Yea... and theoretically anyone could be president...

You have to keep in mind that the quests are going to take 3-6 months of considerable effort to accomplish. Thats 3-6 months of no 14 points. Thats 3-6 months of time that you can't spend just crafting.

Consider something else... this will require that people become essentially Jedi to be around the top of their craft.

Why would i fear change when i know it will only benefit me?

I will havea 14 point master the same day p9 goes live because i am going to turn my jedi into a crafting toon.
