Can someone explain the advantages of crafting in a city that is a "research center" and tell me if I have to be a resident of that city to get the bonus or can I just craft with my droid in that city to get the bonus?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Can someone explain the bonus granted while crafting in a city that is a research center? Also, do I have to be a citizen of that city to get the bonus or can I just craft inside city limits with my droid and still have the same results?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The city status gives a small increase to the success of experimentation. You are more likely to get amazing success' and great success. Exactly how much that roll is increased, I am not sure. And as long as you are within the city limits you can use whatever station/droid you want and still receive the bonus.

You do not need to be a resident to get the benefit.
I'll let the others discuss what it does

the bonus is +15% of your roll added to it at the end.... of experimenting.
So, say the scale is 1-100. 90 is amazing, 70-90 great, 50-70 good. your craft something, experiment 2 boxes at a time
First roll is a 62, good success. But since your in a research down, you get 15%, 9.3 or 9 added to your roll, so that bumps it up to a great success. (71) and so on for each of your 'experiments'
That's how i understand it to work.
In practical application you'll generally see less moderate, and good success in a research city. Combined with +25 crafting experimentation CA's you'll see amazing success most of the time. which is good when ther eis multiple lines to craft on that actually do something. Foods, weapons, armour.. a few arch items.

The +10% bonus in a "Research Center" increases your chance of a great/amazing success.
