i've got a suspicion that the 3% base on the rancor is what allows the cold and heat specials to raise with effectiveness experementation. otherwise, you would expect krayt scales to have the same effect as rancor and they just dont. my guess is sharnaff wouldn't help. but i'd love to see someone try.

they do have the same effects... since the mount publish you could experiment the effectiveness up on krayt scale armor... it will raise everything that was moved to special protection by experimenting on the base resists on the finished piece... i had an armorsmith test this out for me after the patch that changed this... he has since left the game and i've taken up the biz and run my own tests with single 4% krayt scales and lesser segments than composite (since i have a few more days till master) and seen the same results...

Lemy, i know that's true of composite, but as far as i know that works on no other type of armor...i tried it on RIS as soon as it went live and had no luck. same with padded. krayt scales are only useful in composite armor...other than that, they serve no purpose. can anyone disprove this'?? if so, i'd love to see screenshots....in my opinion, this change would make RIS worth the hastle.

on a side note here, I actualy find krayt scales kind of pointless in composite.. it moves several resists up into special (unsliceable) for only a small gain... I find them more useful in making a low-ham armor like mabari... you add a krayt scale (and you only need one) and you have armor that's only vulnerable to stun, that's extremely light. even if the resists are low, this isn't an armor for a front line figher, but would be great for a medic, or carbineer who stands back during combat.

Very helpful! Thanks!

Im stockpiling right now and ill begin my part of the experimentation as soon as we bring in some kimo scales

But yall are saying Rancor Hides and NS's are the way to go?

FWIW, special protection resists have acting odd with me when I was playing with Sharnaff segments on chitin. It moved heat/acid/cold to special protection and experimenting on effectiveness raised them along with kinetic (albeit at different rates). I don't think it's a segment vs. enhancer thing, since using voritor segments in bone armor adds a small kinetic resist that doesn't increase as effectiveness is experimented on.

It seems if the armor is -supposed- to have a particular resist, dragging it up into Special Protection will not hinder it from being Experimented on.

This would mean if the "natural" resists in RIS are Acid and Stun, by dragging the Heat/Cold into Special Protection you are "fixing" one of the bugs and therefore bringing it into the normal Effectiveness by which it was supposed to be, meaning it can be Experimented on.

This is just a guess, I plan on testing it with my next RIS piece to confirm.
