As to the earlier comment about killing rancors. Not sure what the drop rate is. But when I was otu helping a guildmate on my combat toon so he could place harvesters on dathomir. Many a rancor died. Along with like.. 8 sets of cores. I did loot one stack of 8 rancor hides withan HP bonus (Dont recall what the bonus is atm though. But it was decent)

So they do drop. If perhaps not often
