Thread: Advanced Layer Primus nerfed with v. 120884?
TRUST me its NOT free when you make us use SO many resources to make it we sure can't make run after run of it.

so now... instead of using only one, we will use none. Good job!
Layers at some point went from "optional" to "all smiths must use if they want to sell". I was hoping we could get away from this, especially as the one cost they did have (ENCUMBRANCE) was yanked out of the system.
The PM I got on how a "free 1200" points of kinetic and energy being "too good" was very convincing.
The solutions I suggested was to either move a larger part of weapon damage into elemental or cut the elemental protection on a standard non layered suit in half making is so that layering for elemental might be come interesting and with diminishing returns this would most likely also balance out the primus layers at the same itme.

1200 points of protection is insignificant at the level of protection smiths make armor. But you tell us.... How much damge percentage-wise does 1200 make on 6000 suit? 7000 suit? 4% maybe? And that is with perfect 1000oq/1000sr resources right?

Granted, layers are optional Blixtev. But we don't dictate what the customers WANT. The customers ask for AND demand the best armor possible, so we provided it for them.
With the new layers, the cost justification (factored as time spent and additional resources) makes layers useless. Why will a customer pay hundreds of thousands more for a suit of armor with 3-5% more protection?
So what if you yanked ENCUMBRANCE out of the system, you also yanked that whole experimentation track out from us.

As the armorsmith who sent the PM I must say you missunderstood me a bit. My focus in the msg was on the fact that elemental damage wasn't high enough to matter, because of this primus layers ended up with no real downside (compared to other layers). The problem was not in the primus layers them self but in the elemental damage. I don't really see how this solvs the problem with elemental damage being useless. Next time please treat the cause not the symtom.

This is why we have a Correspondant, good job.

Armorsmiths are still going to charge 10cpu for stuff. It's a crock....especially when shiprights have to charge less then half that...otherwise they are ripping people off....I just think it's sad that the system has been designed so that 350k for a suit of Wookie Hunting armor is a deal...If you want to make the economy better then don't make it so things are that difficult to make....it's not rocket scienceMessage Edited by Omicron2 on 04-24-2005 10:22 PM
You can't compare the 2. How much Lokian Leathery Hide is needed for Ship Parts?
Also, for chassis, its all generic resources that could be used, and the difference between junk and uber resources is so minute, that only PvPers would notice a difference.
Crafting a Level 5 Engine for example, is far easier than crafting a full suit of Wookie Hunting Armor.
