Thread: Experiment to test the effect of amazing assembly on experimentation rolls
- I am 12 point armorsmith (+20 armorsmith experimentation)
- I have +22 in armorsmith assembly from tapes
- For the majority of this testing, I was a 10 point smith with no tapes whatsoever (this changed last month)
- I tested using kinetic layers, blast layers, ubese armor, chitin armor, mabari armor, padded armor, RIS armor, and all the segments therein.
Like Furia, I experimented with only the SR and base lines. Any time I experimented in encum, I discarded those results. It is important to note that this is coming from a 10 point smith the majority of this time.
I crafted 132,987 times since last October when I hit master, and the Experiment ended this February, when I crafted my 80% RIS armor. Of those times:
- 32 of them were critical failure on assembly.
- 4 of them were good assembly
- 72,029of them were great assemby.
- 60,932 of them were amazing assemby.
Since we are only comparing great to amazing, this is what I found:
With amazing assembly:
- 27,419 were amazing experimentation, of which 9,901 were repeat amazing experimentations (as in on same item)
- 33,513were great experimentation
With great assembly:
- 25,210 were amazing experimentation, of which 3,429 were repeat amazing experimentations (as in one item)
- 46,819 were great experimentation
So:
Chance of Amazing Experimentation on an Amazing Assembly: 45%
Chance ofGreat Experimentation on anAmazing Assembly: 55%
Chance of Amazing Experimentation on aGreat Assembly: 35%
Chance ofGreat Experimentation on aGreat Assembly: 65%
Conclusions:
Based on a long study of probability, and how items are crafted, the basic appearance over time is that you have a 10% better chance of achieving an amazing experimentation with an amazing assembly, than you do without. This also explains why a short term research will not catch this - 10% of a smaller number of experiments is a very small number, but that number grows as the number of experiments grows.
Reasoning:
Some might ask why I did this from the beginning of my armorsmith career. It was my goal, long before I even became an armorsmith, to have my own, perfect set of RIS armor. I had collected the pieces over a year. Finally, I decided that to be absolutely sure the armor comes out the way I desire, I would pick up armorsmith, and learn as much as I can about it. Therefore, since I saw my assembly and things up on my way to becoming master, I decided once I had the full benefits of being a master, I would chart the amazings and greats to determine if this was something I could influence, or if I was better off not counting on it for crafting my RIS.

That looks like good data to me with a nice N value. Do you have the break down on the items? Be interesting to see if the amazing assemblies make more or less of a difference depending on the item being made.
Unfortunately, I do not. That would merit further investigation, but I just investigated the overall, thinking it would apply to everything. I never even considered it might be different for different objects, which might be something worth looking into.

Well, I am certainly glad I could help. Forgive me for not posting my findings sooner - I just had assumed once I found what I did, that it was common knowledge for all armorsmiths...
