As a merchant I believe in making a profit but not price gouging. I see sets of Composite on this list for 350K. Thats just retarded. Can anyone justify 350K+ for a set of Composite? The only logical explaination I can come up with is if a person orders a spacific set with matched %'s. Then I can see a time factor that would make the cost of the armor more expensive. Personally I play my crafter as an alt and would refuse any kind of order that was overly time consuming.

How can you afford to sell bone at 1k? It takes 1246 resources to make a suit of it so even at 1 cr/unit it's more than 1k
Simple, I hardly ever make any. I've not had someone request a suit of bone armor since my engineer days.
And Halkhan, I don't know anything about the general pricing on bria but those are insane ![]()
Here's my prices. Sheesh, and I was told when I started making armor, that padded was worth 60-80k lol.
Bone, 1k
Mabari, 5k
Chitin (most pieces have over 35% kinetic) 23k
Tantel: 10k
Ubese: 33k (also around 35% kinetic)
Padded: I guess I'll start selling it for 25k, but I sure as hell aint making it on anything but special orders. Expensive half-cruddy suit. ![]()
I price based on # of resources, and markup 3X to coverfails and practices. Now, I'm using a base cost of 5c per resource which is sometimes high and sometimes low but tends to average out.
It makes my prices for padded and down higher than many on my server; and when I hit master I have a difficult decision to make. I can charge more for composite like the majority of the masters, or stay low with composite and hold the line with my lower armors. Supply and demand would seem to indicate that I would eventually be a composite-only armorsmith if I do the latter.
Right now, til I get the resources, all I make is standard composite(no kiirium steel spawning from since before i even started armorsmith sucks the big one).
I sell a full suit of 37% no layers, lowest ham I can get with the highest resists, for 130k.
But, then again, that same armor could bring 200k on other servers, probably. Welcome to Chilastra's fubared economy. =/
ehh
bone - dont make
armorweave - lol actually sold a set tonight for 15k
chitin - sell cruddy 25/20 stuff for 35k a set
tantel - 7.5k
ubese - 30k
padded - 45-50k
composite - not quite yet
I just sell for however much I want... I don't need money, and my guild provides for all my costs, so I sell for what I think is right, and what people are willing to pay. If you can't afford a price, I'll usually lower it 25%. Much nicer giving people armor then gouging them for cash.

I also want to point out that there is a HUGE difference in resists between advanced and normal armors.
So using a set price for suits is just not going to work. It has to be based on a combination of resists, encumbrance, demand and a number of other factors. Over the past couple days, I've been going around a number of master armorsmith shops to try to get at least a starting point on how much I should charge. It's been difficult, to say the least. I've seen 30% kinetic chitin and 55% kinetic chitin. I've seen 20%/15%, 36%/27% and 52%/19% ubese. I've seen 30% composite and 43% normal composite. Prices for these armors should be quite different.
Also, just because chitin and ubese are lower tier armors doesn't mean that you shouldn't charge well. When I make chitin or ubese, I'm using the same top quality resources as I do when I make composite. Composite isn't necessarily a better armor than chitin or ubese. Each serves a specific purpose.
There 's an important point which you can conisder when you start out, or you can learn the hard way. I'm going to ignore the difference in quality, including stats and encumberance, and imagine every smith on the server makes exactly the same armour.
1. There is never enough smiths on a server to fulfil demand. People generally dont go out of their way to go to stores because they accept that most places have little if any choice on their vendors.
2. If you undercharge people are going to flock to you. You are going to sell out in a night, once a few people know about it.
3. Once this happens you are very quickly (like instantly) unable to keep up with demand.
4. The people you try to undercut sell a quarter of the stock you do, for the same price. The next day they still have a good range of stock while your vendors are empty. The next few days, while you try to make some more armour, they have a nice steady flow of customers, they still have a range of armour to sell and people are happy to go there because there is a range available.
The people charging more can choose to either play an alt or do some more crafting. Over time they get a reuptation as a quality supplier simply because they always have stuff on their vendors.
Thats a bit simplistic but its true. It gets to me how anyone can accuse folk of overcharging, when there isnt a third enough suppliers around and a lot of folk have cash with nothing to spend it on.
And for info - I learnt the hard way. I started selling cheap and my prices are rising.
