Uh, you somehow lost me on this passage. From how i understand it, he'd have the choice to:1. get assault armour, having higher protection vs. kinetic while having lower vs. energy and perhaps having some penalties as he's not master.2. get battle armour, having equal protection vs. kinetic and energy and having no penalties as he's MCarb. If i see this wrong (i don't have deep insigt into the inner workings of armour yet...) then please correct me.
you are right, i wrote two times battle armor , my fault sorry ...
it is as you said
wear assault armor with penalties having better protectino vs kinetic
or
wear battle armor without penalties having equal protection vs both

RIS armor is the best armor that you could get as a swordsman but IMHO I don't really feel that it is worth the extra price. I feel that you would be best served getting two sets of armor instead. If you are going to PVP you will want a set of Primus Layered battle armor as well as a set of Energy layered battle armor if you are just fighting jedi. The Primus Layered armor will be for when you are fighting jedi as well as regular melee characters. Then, you are going to want to get both sets of armor sliced for full 75% armor break reduction. The other advantage of this is that even if you get two sets of armor and get them both sliced it will cost you less then ONE nice set of RIS armor. You also get the ability to get higher sockets on your armor since it is cheaper to make multiple pieces of the layered armor then it would be if you wanted a full suit of 4-Socket RIS. The only disadvantage of the regular armor as opposed to the RIS armor is that it has less Condition but if you are using the two suits interchangably it will last you longer and will be A LOT cheaper to replace if your armor does end up breaking.

But keep in mind, RIS does not give any more resists than a normal set of armor. It hastwice the conditionand looks cooler than other battle armor, but has no advantage other than that. Energy and primus layers are nice like people say, but weigh what you are using it for based on what it will cost. layering armor is very expensive (about twice as expensive)and only gives about 5% more resists than the unlayered cap. Alot of people buy the layered set and slowly add slices, AA's and whatever else to make it as nice as possible and only use it for high-end PvP and get a second unlayered set for grinding and other stuff in order to make the good set last as long as possible.
