if you search posts from the last time this phase came around, there were rifleman/cm's that were doing it solo. The problem was that in doing it solo they didn't get the special lightsaber color crystal, which even if you don't want can sell for a couple million.

To slice a light saber before you get padawan if you have novice saber/M smuggler?
and a side note can you ADK a saber? without the crystal or perals going bad?

No you cant slice your saber but yes you can ADK it to stop it from taking crystal/pearl damage.
