Thread: Wookie armor and the hides requirement to make sets...

I hesitated to respond again, as it is clear many people think the prices I am charging are rip-off prices. I do not consider them to be that and I will make one more attempt to explain why.
All the discussion about the prices for the armor and the profit have focused on resources and the cost of them. I buy some of my resources, but I harvest many of them myself with a Master Ranger alt. What I take into account in charging for armor is not the cpu of the resources, but rather the time per unit in obtaining them. This is true for both the wookiee armor and the 70+/30+ Ubese that I specialize in. (I have not yet ventured into the highly competitive and highly profitable Composite market.)
I spend what seems to be the vast majority of my ingame time (a) locating resources of appropriate quality, (b) traveling to distant planets to drop and/or tend harvesters, (c) hunting almost nonstop when there is good wooly or leathery hide up somewhere, (d) housekeeping (i.e., keeping track of what I have, finding places to store it, figuring out what I'm getting low on, searching my main house and five storage houses and three factories and bank deposit box trying to figure out where the heck I put the last of that good axidite I had), (e) making schematics, (f) tending factories, (g) stocking vendors, (h) answering questions about and taking special orders for armor and BE clothing (as a Master Tailor as well), (i) explaining to my guild why I can't join the hunt for the good avian meat on Dath because I am almost out of good quality leathery hide and there is some on Talus right now, (j) reading forums like this one, which allowed me to be one of the first if not the first person on my server with the new wookiee armor, (k) other crafting-related tasks I'm sure I'm forgetting.
I'm not complaining about the time. I'm enjoying being a crafter and I am especially enjoying finally, in the last couple of weeks, having enough in my bank account to afford to give away my armor to friends and guildmates. But the price I charge for my armor (175k/set of the 70plus ubese, 225k if you buy in individual pieces) is based on the amount of time and trouble it takes to make the armor, not on the cost per unit of the resources.
I'm not looking to get into an argument here. I just wanted to explain my reasoning. I'll keep armorsmithing as long as it is fun and I can make enough money to justify it. I crafted in EQ and I watched the prices drop to a point where you lost money on every item you sold. If that happens here, I'm off to be a commando or something, where at least you make a profit on the missions.
Wynsum
Great wooly is selling on average 200-500 cpu on the Ahazi server.
Its more profitable for me to allocate my best wooly to Composite armor.
Sorry, Wookies.
You make good points and I agree with most of them. I don't feel the pinch of getting hides, because I've kept one tree of scout and Swordsman excels at dispatching mobs. Simply, I've choosen to play differently. I also have several friends/guildmates that are willing to hunt from time to time. Of course, I give them free armor too. So there's some incentive to help out.
Have you tried to find people that are willing to trade resources for armor? I think that would be a win-win. You both get something that each of you considers a bargain.
Considering how long you've been playing, you must have a decent list of people that buy from you. Your Ubese would also be a target for hunters rather than PvP, so there are probably many in your clientbase that can gather hide.
Good luck with the search.

Are you kidding? That is completely insane! Thank god Wanderhome hasn't gotten that bad yet. I'm paying 30-40 cpu for hide that is OQ+SR = 1800. Even at that price I'm getting dirty looks from my fellow smiths saying I'm paying too much.

This is true. Ahazi, along with being one of the most populous, was hit pretty hard by the dupers early and often. There is an absurd amount of money out there. I consider myself a pretty poor armorsmith, with about 1.8-2mil in the bank, cause onesmall spending spree on a few resources, guns, and furniture could easily blow through this.
If you think that 30k for a suit of armor covers my costs using mybest resources AND time to track them down, you are mistaken. Some of the exact resources I am using for this armorhavesold for 50cpu+ on auctions. And compared to a profit markup of 80-100 cpu for composite and Ubese, making this stuff is astime consuming, and deserves a similar cost markup.
If any of these prices were really too much, it WOULDN"T SELL!!!!!! I don't see anyone saying that it isn't moving out, so their prices must be fine.
Wow. Yeah if the price was too high people wouldn't buy. It sucks that you guys got hit by those credit duping bugs. Kinda ruins the game for people.
Yeah 1.8-2 mil in the bank is considered poor. Even on my server. I need to buy about 300-400k hide right now and I'm glad I got a half decent bank account. This is forcing me to make more armor and sell it to keep up my cash flow so I guess it's a good thing. Lol.

And those prices are getting my hunters going. How much does Adv Comp sell on ahazi for that price of hide? I might make a ranger on that server now.Lol
