Thread: 80/80/80 resistant composite

The slicing dilemma has always concerned me. I have a master smuggler alt so the time and expense of slicing isn't really an issue. My question with 80 electric, everything-in-the-base is always "what do you do with the encumbrance slices you don't want?" It kills me to throw armor away.
My main slicing armor is simple, high base 80 kinetic comp. If you get an effectiveness slice, then wonderful. 80 kinetic does the trick against most mobs. If you get encumbrance, then you still have good armor for grinding or krayt hunting. I also make triple 80 comp and I don't like effectiveness slices for it. If I get effectiveness here, I've left out the two main damage types. If I get encumbrance, I consider it to be great PvE armor then.
I look forward to the CURB and the proposed smuggler revamp when it appears these isssues will go away. We can make armor that will benefit from the slicing process and let the customer take the risk of it breaking down or going out of tune or what not. Then we can also make solid, reliable armor (whatever that is under the new system) that will offer protection without the need for a slice.
I have a smuggler alt as well. I sell my encumbrance sliced pieces the same as unsliced, but on a different vendor. Some people actually prefer an encumbrance slice.
What do you use for your 3rd on the triple comp? Energy?
Do you (or anyoneelse for that matter)feel it's worthwhile to place stun as a 4th layer? For instance, I was experimenting last night and ended up with: 80 Kinetic / 80 Electric / 80 Energy / 11 Stun. That fills the stun hole, but is the low resistance even worth it? Is this better suited for blast resist? Even that, I guess is debatable. A nice effectiveness slice will give you a high blast anyway.

Agreed. No point in making armor and buying someone elses. Not quite sure how that relates to the discussion, but I do agree.
You missed the point. The way it relates is think about what you make before you make it. Dont think from a profit or being the "1st guy to do this and that" stand point, think of its usefulness. There was some question into why go 80/80/80/80 when you can make the low stun/high baseand get everything up to 90%. With the stun you are looking for outside help(smuggler) and a lucky slice to get you to a desired or decent protection percentage. With 80% in the main protection types, you can go out with it as is and arent as dependent on what type of slice or what percentage that slice is to get at least the 80%.

No, I didn't miss the point. I just wanted you to spell it out to make sure that's what you were saying. Getting your armor sliced on Bloodfin is the norm. Everything is sliced. If food could be sliced, it would be.
That may differ from server to server. So upon reading your initial statement, it didn't strike me as a plausable concern that quad armor would have a superior value after slicing. However, now that I think about it a little more, I see that value. It's value lies in the fact that it doesn't have to be sliced. Thanks for enlightening me!

Why not just ask instead of making a misleading statement that says otherwise? I would have been happy to explain. ![]()
BTW- Welcome to 8 months ago.
Because I'm a smart-a**. I'm working on it. I really am.

HUGE difference from vuln to 4% AR1 stun. I try to put a splash of stun in everything I make. 4% stun resists really is 50% stun dmg reduction due to the fact most stun weapons are AP0 to your AR1 armor. Going higher up the stun resists doesnt stack too well so I stay on the low end of stun unless Its a helm or chest to account for the targeted specials used with a stun weapon.
Just a few encounters with stun baton Protectors or Elders will convinceanyone that low stun is quite a blessing opposed to none.

Learn me oh wise and powerful masters as to why would you limit your armor to 80% ?
I have 2 suits, I make a 18% stun 80% electric 68% base NPCSlayer suit
and a 80% Kinetic 80% Electric 70% Base PVE suit
my 80k/80e/69 base : I have a 80/80/90 Base sliced suit from 10 suits sliced
my 18s/80e/68 base: I have a customer that has a 18s/80k/90 base suit from 6 sliced suits
I understand the price to slice might be high on other servers, but why are you limited your customer to 80% armor when they could have 90% ?
I am contiplating switching over to 80% electric 70% Base and 40% stun when I have decent resources to sell for slicing so my customers are not limited by design only credits/Smuggler fees.
If I do it this way i cater to my low end customers who might not even know about slicing, and my High enders who can throw away millions to make nice suits
why is the 4 80% better ?
With quad 80 armor, it is still useful if you get an encumbrance slice on it. Not every player could afford to buy 5 suits of armor in order to "hope" for good effectiveness slices.
From your post, you sliced 16 suits to get 2 suits with 90%. Not too many people could afford that.
