Thread: GUIDE: How Armor Works
AR is only ignored if the damage is of a type that the armor is weak against.
Resists and special protection are never ignored.
I have been doing some more tests on AP:2 vs AR:1 and things aren't lining up like they did before. I have been unable to find anyone to help me test AP:3 vs AR:1 at this time.
AP:2 vs Ubese with Special protection (+56% and +69%) does normal damage and is absorbed normally by the armor.
AP:2 vs Composite (+44%) does normal damage and is absorbed normally by the armor.
AP:2 vs AP:1 (+14%) goes right through all the armor.
AP:2 vs AP:1 (+21%), the armor absorbs 1.5% of the damage
A friend of mine metioned that it could be because the Ubese is post-patch and the Composite is pre-patch. I am going to try and get a hold of some post patch Composite sometime and see if I see any difference. If not then it appears that it has to do with the amount of resistance when it comes to stopping armor piercing.

First one, armor degrades based on the damage it DOES NOT absorb. This means that better armor (higher resists) degrades slower than poorer quality armor. Thus it will lose 12 off of its condition (80 * 0.2).
Second one, same reason as above.
When I ran the numbers it appeared to take 20% of the damage absorbed. However, I only tested this minimaly so what you are saying about it taking damage equal to the amount not absorbed could very likely be true. I will run some further tasts this evening to see what I come up with.

Third one, resists and special protection ALWAYS apply. Though the attack gets a +25% bonus, you must apply the rests after that. So 125 - 40% = 75.
Fourth one, AR is completely seperate from resists. There is no "acting" like AR2. Special protection has no effect on AR. The attack would get a 25% bonus. Then that would be reduced by 70%. 100 * 1.25 * 0.3 (70% smaller) = 37.5 damage.
This common misconception is the exact reason I wrote this guide. I heard this from many people, so I tested it myself a month or so ago. Then, I heard people claiming it again after the latest patch, so once again I tested it myself. Both times I found that when you are hit with a weapon of higher AP than you have AR, you do *NOT* benefit from the armor's resistances. The only exception to this rule is when you have Special Protection against a certain damage type, such as Ubeses with Special Protection against kinetic. In this case you do gain the armor's resistance benefits. However, if you take that same Ubeses armor and you hit it with a Power Hammer, Grenade, T21, etc. the armor will not stop any damage.
I encourage those of you who do not believe me to test this for yourself. Find a friend with a T21 (commond) and have him shoot at you while you are wearing armor (any kind will work). You will find that your armor doesn't help you at all and his T21 eats through you the same as if you were naked.
I will test it yet again tonight and write down my data and post it here so others can see how my tests are done.

thanks for the very interesting post ![]()
only a question
AP 0 vs AR1 20% special protection
if bob hit joe for 100 damage the armor absorb 60 damage (50% ar1 + 20% special protection) or just 20 damage (ignore ar1 and apply only 20% special protection) ?
bump
I'd like to see how AP0 does vs AR1: SP 50% or something similar
After struggling with the new Dathomir creatures, I read this guide. I now have a new appreciation for mabari armorweave.
Resists against common damage types and you can wear a full set with under 90 HAM. Against your typical combat-grinding creatures with no armor piercing, you're getting over 50% damage resisting and you can spam specials without fear of dying to the HAM costs. And to think I climbed all the way to 4-2-0-4 to make decent ubese before I found out that the thousands ofjackets I made were actually useful.
But... if everyone finds out that padded and mabari are still good armor choices, then no one will buy this ridiculously high priced composite set!
I like to congratulate a very good guide.
But I was very surprised reading in the last paragrah that special protection in fact works as being AR 2 can you proof that, Barker?

I cant prove anything, I just reposted this guide from Game Guides forum.
