This is how armor works:

It absorbs attacks. This is dependant upon what types of damage the armor protects against and the percentage that it will protect. Also, armor condition decays when it is "hit". The lower the condition of the armor, the lower percentage it will absorb across the board.

Armor does not affect the amount of HAM you have, yet it encumbers the Stats that do affect the HAM. In effect, Armor will make your HAM heal slower and Special Attacks/Moves cost more HAM energy. If you plan on wearing armor,it would be wise to lower your HAM slighty and put theexcess pointstowards your Stats using the Stat Migration tool under the Character Sheet (Ctrl+C). Note: Be aware that using weapons with high Special costs and wearing armor will hinder you in battle. Try to avoid these weapons or find one that has lower Special costs.

You cannot wear armor that reduces your HAM stats below zero points.

My personal experience with armor is that it has saved my life many times. In beta, I've fought Fambaa on Naboo with and without armor (soloing). I survived more often using armor. Armor isn't for everyone though, especialy if you team exclusively. If you tend to get agro a lot during fights (as you will find you doif you choose the melee profession route), then do your medic a favor and wear that armor.

Faster healing tip: What I do is make Toolbar #6your "armor on/off switch". Hit Crtl+F6 ingame. Put all of your armor in the slots there. While you are healing and not fighting, switch to this bar and hit the F-keys that have armor on it (its also a good idea to have a pair of pants on that toolbar). Doing this will remove all armor and wear any clothes that are on the bar. This will let you heal much faster.

I hope this helps more than it confuses you.

I have not tried armor yet, but in my opinion from observing others I would say your best bet is to never get a full suit. Get just the helmet or just the torso plate depending on the protection you need most. Someday I might try this out but we'll see.

Yeah.. i really feel like I'm scamming people by selling random armor that I craft. At novice armorsmith I have 1 experiment point that I can't do much with. I really just feel like most people are buying my items from the bazzar because they don't have the first clue as to what the armor does and just assume that it'll help... I also think folks buy it because they want to look "cool" or different from most others in their clothes or bone.

In full bone armor my Expert Pistol/Marksman can solo a red Master Thief when doing Imperial Missions. I constantly see "Your Bone Armor has absorbed soandso howevermuch damage" messages so I believe it makes quite a difference against blaster enemies.

Of course, against melees bone armor doesn't help you at all.

I just got some Armorweave armor (hands feet) and I find that helpful against creatures. Unfortunatly not many ppl on my server are able to make it quite yet so its rather hard to come by.

You can make good armor without experimentation if you use good resources. Armor worth wearing at least. I've had a lot of customers tell me how pleased they are with the armor they bought from me on the bazaar. Course now I have more experimentation points, but even when I didn't I was making decent stuff.

By the way armor doesn't make you move slower.

I personally plan to eventually wear armor that covers my chest and arms... but nothing else. As a Mon Cal Medic, my mind pool is plenty big to take the occasional hit and I need my focus/will to stay maxxed for healing. So, it totally depends on what your profession/race/role in combat is. I can see Marksmen wearing everything but leg armor to keep their action high and I can see Brawlers... well... wearing full suits I guess.

I was in Beta late, so I learned the hard way about how armor worked. I was churning out crap bone armor toget xp. But it wasnt very popular because it wassnt experimented. The Beta people are more savvy when it comes to armor nowopposed to those new to the game who just think it looks cool(same goes with guns and other weapons too). Once people get more familiar with the intricacies of this gamepeeps will know whats good and whats bad.

I have just started Mabari, and I have read that chitin will be made today on my server(corbantis). I hate to say this, for I am not sure, but chitin coming out so soon may mean a guy powercrafted thru the mabari level and went to level 2 personal armor w/o adding any other of the first tear armorsmith skills, including the branch that focuses on experimentation. So now chitin will look cool, have little experimentation and will force us others who may want to go for quality over quantitiy, to keep up with the market demand by doing the same thing

Of course I could be wrong.....

About the Chitin Armor, I agree, kneelocked.

Chitin armor is best when the Armorsmith has a good amount of expirement points to throw around.

I've seen novice Chitin Helmets that have a 150 to 160 Mind encumberance.... Ouch.

I wear a full suit of Chitin (had to mess with the stats some to be able to wear it).

Yes, it's hell on your pools, but it gives -amazing- protection when in a fight.

I wear a full set of Chitin as a Tera Kasi, It kills your regen properties and special move attribute but I dont even need special moves to kill most mobs cause it protects so well and I just take it off after a fight to regen, I can solo mobs with just basic attack moves cause I dont take muh damage. Bone was worthless to me cause im unarmed but so far Chitin is great im looking forward to a set of ubese or padded armor soon
