Armor for 250k is TOO much.
*snip*
but armorsmiths can only make 80%, it's the smuggler's fault, hate the smugglers (oh wait i'm both) hate the umm...shoot
ya actually i agree with armor being to uber, but when they do a combat revamp i hope that includes Super Battle Droids and Death Watch Wraithes, don't get me wrong, they're fine now, but without uber armor and insane buffs i'd be left at the door with the rest of my group
250K isn't that bad, i spent 225K a piece on 2 spare sets today for PvE, spent 295K for the set i'm wearing, and 300K for my pvp set, and i'm the "poor" one in my guild. so, if i can afford 4 sets of armor, surely you can pay 250K for one set, think of it as an investment
...yet somehow i still wear my 56K suit of ubese armor.../shrug

Having been an Armorsmith for a considerable amount of time, I have a few ideas of my own regarding the rather silly prevasiveness of Composite armor, and the general disinterest in other armor types, although I must say I have made a decent living from Ubese, Tantel, and now Wookie sets....Chitin even sells quite well.... well, I digress. I would like to offer a few of my viewpoints for any who may be interested in them.
1.) It was flawed thinking that made Composite constructionfree from the hard to acquire Organic resources. I really fail to see the logic train in making all armors heavily dependent on Hides/Bone (and sometimes very specific hides and bone)EXCEPT the most powerful armor in the game. Look at the steep organic requirements for Padded! This armor is the very next below Composite and you need to kill a planet full of nasty critters to craft the stuff! Giving Composite a similar Hide requirement would have kept us from simply harvesting 100 million metal, and factory-running away. This is a serious flaw. Composite would have been far more rare had we been made to hunt for some of the components. Try gather 100k Leathery ANYWHERE, and you will know what I mean. Likewise, with the current quality of Hides and Bone-----Devs, please fix Avian Bone, it should not perma-bite really!----90% resists would have been laughable, oh maybe we could make a limited run of it oncw or twice in a blue moon, but that would be it.
2.) What about Armor certifications? Weapons have them, why not armor? This would have ensured the need for at least a minimul trickle of lower armor need for all players. Why can a Surveyor or Dancer wear Composite, or RIS for all that matter.
3.) NOTHING should have been able to alter the secondary statistics, expect illegal substances and those for a limited time. The fact that a Doctor can buff someone for 2500HAM for three hours wouldn't really be an issue if those buffs improved only the primary numbers. As it is, both armor encumbrance AND MOB damage output are negated by the near "insta-heal" the buffed player experiences. Scouts and camps would have been more utilized for healing as well, and diversifiedparties would have been made necessary....hmmmm...sounds familiar..no soloing adventure planets, I know I heard that somewhere. While I am at it I suppose I ought to mention the loathing I have always had for the "buff once, wear crushing armor forever" aspect of this game. Really fellows, an automatic de-armoring algorithm would not have been that hard to mash out.
It really does seem that I cannot write anything on a message board without turning it into a seeming endless expostulation.... really. My thanks to the one or two of you who read this entire post...oh, and by the by, Devs, how about finally fixing the numbers on Stimpack use. Stim B's that heal for 360+ and cost only 5 points of medicine use? I can heal myself entirely from half a HAM bar down in onequick shot! No wonder all the poor struggling Medics grow up to become serial mind poisoners! Ok, I'm done now.

greykin, that was put very well and i agree on all points but the certification. Anyone should be able to wear armor what ever armor they want. People change careers a lot for various reasons and it would be a needless waste of time to have to keep changing armors because you decided that ranged combat is not for you. What we truly need are more armor types. Not necessarily full suits or anything extravagent, but just some variety. The armor types out there are a joke for the most part and SOE has only themselves to blame for that. Padded is ridiculously hard to make, heavy and with a low condition so it decays in days in the right situations. I specialize in it (60% kinetic with one layer, 48% to the rest) but don't sell it because it is that hard to make. It is all I wear but since Yavinian wooly and Cubrian steelare generallythe worst resource in the game, it is a waste of time to make and sell. All that I have, I keep for personal use. Advanced chitin and advenced Ubese are the same. Great kinetic but they only last for the weekend and once again, in order to make it worth selling, you are limited to resources that don't traditionally spawn well. Variety is the answer. Armored jackets, steel-tipped boots, things like that. Make the reinforced jackets and pants reinforced with something. Perhaps the armor layer could be made by armorsmiths and a tailor could make the clothing with it in it. Or perhaps the other wy around. The tailor could make the clothing and have it work as a component that an Armorsmith could add the protection to. Just my 2 cents.

I for one am planning for an armor free life if they nerf armor. The Ham regen cost, and cost period vs protection will make me go without armor. maybe a chest piece.
no more 500k armor for me that is for sure.

Armor for 250k is TOO much.
Armotsmiths are the richest people on the servers atm, and SOE don't like to see that players are multi-millionairs and can buy what ever they want. (this i found on a different forum, told by SOE themself)
But with the new space expansion comming out, the next billionairs will be the Shipwrights. (maybe start nerfing them now too).
With the space expansion there is an option of putting armorsmiths / weaponsmiths in it too.
Let them make the shield generators and weapons on the ships...
You have got to be the dumbest person on the planet. If you think 250k for armor is too much, why not charge 20k for a full suit of Composite on your vendors?
Why are us ARMORSMITHS to blame for making 80% armor? Our customers demand the best, finding the best resources, and getting a good supply of them isn't easy. I used to stock 54%base NON-layered Composite, customers would be like, "I got garbage 54% composite on.".
I'd love to sell armor for less than 250k, but when I could make far more money selling the resources separately, why in the hell would I make them into armor then? You also then have the reseller to worry about, if they see something super cheap on your vendor they'll buy out everything.I know, I've done it myself.
So what if we are some of the richest people on the servers, its not like we all didn't work hard. If we all dropped Crafting Skills to get the Uber Leet skill template to do Rancor missions and get the Uber Leet loot drops, we could probably actually make more money.
Ya, ARMORSMITHS, are the ones to blame for everything wrong with the economy and combat.
