Armorsmith Archive
Thread: Since this came up in another thread...(Wookiee armor)
Please credit us Tailors with some brains. Most of us have other crafting skills too and know how to experiment for low HAM or whatever stats an armoursmith would ask us for.

Sorry, kegboy, Just going on what YOUR CORRESPONDANT said. Sorry if you were offended.
Funny. I thought they would be excited to actually experiment on something.
They have labled the Tailor profession the one for stupid crafters or just lazy.

We aren't armorsmiths. We don't know what to experiment on. Even if we were to gather the good-quality hides, how do we know what sorts of experimentation the armorsmith will want on his product? Once again, the tailor will not be able to use the pre-made components as a source of income because the components may not be experimented to the liking of the armorsmith consumer. If the armorsmith has to tell the tailor exactly what to experiment on, the armorsmith should just be doing the experimenting.

oh It wasn't your remark that offended me StarchMonkey and I know what our correspondent and a lot of other tailors said but there are also a lot of tailors who WANT to see this happen. And much as I respect our correspondent I have to respectfully disagree with her on this point. I must admit to not being the keenest to see experimentation, but thas just due to being so damn busy it's not funny. But also being a WS I like experimenting just not in tailoring, as I'm so damn busy with it and customers impatient enough without adding the complication of experimenting when I have up to 6 othre waiting in line at theeed for an order.
I do a good deal of business with ASs with synth and I don't mind (unlike a lot of tailors) component making so I don't have a problem with this (unless I have to start chasing Uber stat fibreplast and inert I hate shifting my harvs a lot. I use way over 100k of fibreplast a week atm just keeping up with synth and trim orders never mind having to chase super stat resources)

It's a conspiracy, someone is trying to make tailors look like they don't know / don't care about their own schematics so the development team has an excuse to not spend 3 patches implementing tailor experimentation.

Icare about my chosenprofession.
Tailors already sell componants to:
Chefs
AS
Medics/Docs
This is fine since it's items we use and make anyways and have the resources for. Plus usuallynovice tailors and casual tailors fill the role of selling componants and that works well for us. But this new thing requires experimentation which means more AS will want a Master Tailor. So I don't see how it helps tailors or AS or wookiees for that matter by having this in the tailoring profession.
I do not want our profession to become the official 'supplier' of other professions which is what it is turning into. Ihonestly feel this is an AS skill not a tailor skill.
Ifthe dev's have some 'big' plan for the padded armor segment and tailors... then why don't they pop in and say something? I think they just throw things in randomly thinking they're doing something 'good' for the community.
Now if they Dev's gave us new schematics along with the padded segments, I'd be happy as could be and would probably be very enthusiastic. How can I get excited about something I can't even use or have a reason to make?
I have to say I would agree that this was probably not very well thought out, but then there are many cases of that in the game (*cougholocrons*).

The biggest issue for me is this:
I use TONS of the fiber panels, synth cloth, and reinforced fiber panels in every single thing I make. These items are the building blocks to both of our professions. Having tailors and armoursmiths require them seems logical. Having them only within the tailoring skill tree does not. It would make more sense for these to be in Domestic arts 2, 3, and 4 respectively. Perhaps having tailors and armoursmiths both require the same artisan tree to get the elite class as well. Having us in one and armoursmiths in another doesn't seem wrong, but it would solve alot of problems for armoursmiths if all their components were able to be made from their artisan skill tree.
So as we both use these components, this makes sense I suppose. But the padded segment? There is no logical reason for a tailor to make it. We can't use it, we can't make anything with it.The schematic should be part of your skill tree, adding a fiber panel maybe... maybe.... but whatever.
