The reports I'm seeing indicate that, contrary to expectations, you can not make items any better than before after completing the FS experimentation line. All you get is a city-specialization-like "improvement" in your success rates.
That's an awful lot of hubbub, and a big pile of work, for a whole lot of nothing - what gives? Making something better is the entire point... could that be in technique instead?

If your main is a crafter and you wish to have the second char and don't care about jedi or combat on your crafting character, then it is what you get. It isn't anything exciting or powerful, it is helpful though.

Crafting possibilities in this new system are what made the force (and the massive development effort and attention around it) interesting to crafters who (gasp) play for crafting. This seems to be nothing that you couldn't already do (and generally do better (city+food) and with far less effort).
But I'm still not sure - hence the question - what is Technique?

No increase in normal operations - but more easily bale to hit all amazings now.
I'm hoping I get that random extra 2% more often now as well...

Personally, I like it. I get a lot more amazings than I did before. This translates into a lot less wasted resources and time spent for me. As an example, I had a layer that I was playing with where I experimented on it 5 times. Of those 5 experimentation rolls, 4 of them resulted in amazings. I have found that it has made getting multiple amazings on a single item occur much more often.
As far as techniques, it's supposed to reduce your chance of critical failures. How well it works I couldn't tell you, but if it does it could be a nice bit of insurance when working with rare loot components.

Just during the assembly phase. Techniques would reduce the chance during assembly and experimentation.

A day later I realize "worthless" is an overreaction. I really wasn't expecting a city bonus type thing all over again though - I'm disappointed, and expected more based on previous discussions. Heck, I even know a weaponsmith who cited FS crafting as one of the reasons he didn't want to continue playing, since it was understood that FS could improve your goods (making it a requirement for anyone who wanted to remain at the top of their field).
I can certainly see using a free tree unlock to grab this, but I don't see the balance in motivation for completing those through crafting XP. The reward doesn't match the work, and doesn't equate to the stackable true improvements that combat professions enjoy (and they have something greater to work towards on top of that).

I believe the Devs' original intent was to have the FS Experimentation line provide an addional 2 experimentation points. However, several people spoke out against it, hence its reduction to simply giving better experimentation results.

Here's a link to the Fan Fest transcript where it was answered that Force Experimentation whould yield an additional 2 points.
FF Transcript: The Path of the Jedi
..and here's a link to a thread from this very forum that spoke out against this change.
Publish 9 "Force Experimentation" - Welcome to the dawn of the 14 point armorsmith
Please note that while I would've liked to have the opportunity to aquire an additional 2 experimentation points, I'm neutral on the devs' decision to change the Force Experimentation line. What I am doing here is merely pointing out what has happened as I see it.

Thank you for the links and background
I noticed that the same person who started that thread complaining about being forced to gain FS to remain competitive now has a new thread stating that he wants FS but is unhappy that it's too difficult.
How ironic.
