Thread: Standard Soldier Armor

I am posting this asking the armorsmith community what the best suit of armor is for 2 categories each with 2 sub-categories,

1. General Questing PvE (IE Geo Caves, Nightsister and the like)

A) Standard Suit

B)Uber Suit

2. General PvP

A) Standard Suit

B)Uber Suit

I am putting an arbitrary cost of 400k for both standard suits, as that seems to be the highest cost on my server for high-end stun-resist suits.

Going to jump the gun and add my current pipedream (I can't make this armor, yet)

1. A) Kinetic Composite Suit 80/80 65% base, 111k

B) Same suit, but with 37% Stun helm, 200k

2. A) Kinetic Composite with 37% stun Helm, 200k

B) Cold Composite sliced to mid80's resists, 750k

I'm being a cheap basturd and gunning for ultra-low costs for maximum protection. I don't plan on mass-producing this stuff like some other smiths, but I will sell a decent number to guildies and friends.

My best PvE suit is 80% Kinetic/80% Electricity/70% Base/4% Stun - I have used it several times with my alt and it seem to be pretty effective in the Geonosian Lab and on Dathomir. The HAM is relatively high, 830-900 or so if I remember correctly. I also make 80% Kinetic as well as unlayered for PvE.

This suit would also be effective in PvE when coupled with a PSG with Stun resistance. I just can't bring myself to make the 38% Stun (That is my max with my current resources and 10 points) 64% Base and rely on PvPers to buy it.

For me, this suit covers the bases with good all around coverage, high slicability and enough stun protection to save you against AP0 Stun weapons (i.e. Stun Baton, Geonosian Sonic Blaster).

Just my 2 cents. I'm sure you will get a lot more )

If you're not making this for mass market, and only for friends and guild, then you'll be able to make your suits more specialized for your sub-categories without having to watch good stuff sit on the vendor because no one understands it. All you have to do is explain it to that select group (or better yet come up with a consensus after discussion and testing).

The community here can come up with a lot of different "bests" but they won't know your specific market. For instance, it's easy to say "just make 65-66% base with 38%+ stun on every piece, add a janta hide to hit 69% base, and keep slicing until you have a complete suit with 90% base and 38%+ stun". That's a suit that is clearly uber when it comes to absorbing damage from any kind of monster/npc/player, but maybe you have some friends who really care about HAM management and they need something lighter. Maybe they need lighter because they can't afford to drink 2 brandies every 45 minutes, etc.

So what I'm trying to say is, look at the ideas you'll get from this community (for instance you can also read this discussion on pvp armor), but use these just as a starting point for discussion in your group.

The only other tip I can make is: don't think in terms of full suits. In other words, each piece of a 9-piece composite suit can be crafted different to make a stronger total suit. Example: gloves are probably the least hit of any piece, yet have pretty high hams. Maybe make them unlayered to reduce total encumbrance.

Thanks for the input!

I have been finding that as a TKM even with a full suit of sliced unlayered composite I sometimes find myself just wearing the pants/chest/helmet. So I have been considering making the arms and boots way lighter than the other pieces to save on HAM hits.

Oh, getting back to my point, I was just wondering what would be a good basic suit to mass produce targeting the medium-range players who only know they want 'composite' armor.

best suit for that I would say is all purpose stun comp, I make 25% stun 80% elec 70% base unsliced stuff that works great for PvE and PvP alike, especially with a shield gen.

Themedium-rangebuyer that you mention will likely get more out of a suit that is 80% Kinetic with a baseabove 60%.

Switching it to 80% Energy with similar base is more problematic though -If you believe that PVP is abysmal and far less "regular"folks participatethese daysas I do,you can conclude that ( as a whole)less benefit would be had by most with this suit.

Maybe for every 30 Kinetic suits made you would make 5 energy suits to roughly reflect the population?

*Disclaimer: -I dont know the PVP activity level on your server

Standart suit 80%-Kinetic-Electricity-Energy 68% - base

More heavy 80% Kinetic-Electricity-Energy-Blast- 66%-base

For PvP same but Helmet and Chest 39% Stun 67%-Base (sliced to eff)

I'm still a believer that the best all-purpose armor is 80% kinetic, 70% base comp, sliced for encumbrance. I'm not a believer in light stun layers, since a PSG takes care of stun just fine when you need it.

I'm sure some people will disagree, but any time a player asks for a basic set of comp, I point them in that direction. I've also done a ton of PvE over my career, and with the exception of the high level dungeons the stuff works great.

enh, take an average encum slice (around 30%) on your 80/70 kin/base armor which is probably around 700ish HAMs, and you end up around 500 HAM total...

OR

take an average effect slice on mid-60s base armor (say 64 base 25% effect slice) and you get a suit around 500 HAM, with 80% to all resists, not just kinetic and the potential for good slices to push kinetic higher than 80% instead of fixed.

I know which suit I'd pick, considering either slicing result is equally likely.

It's a product of your server's market. On Shadowfire, you pretty much have to sell presliced armor to move product. Encumbrance sliced stun composite is already a dud that has to be sold at cost to move, I don't need encumbrance sliced 64% base (no special protection) cluttering up the shop as well.

If I could move unsliced armor, I'd make 70% base, no special protection. The only time I move armor in bulk off of my unsliced vendor it when the presliced vendor runs dry.
