Thread: Experimentation Woes

I know this has been brought up numerous times but last night was the worst I've ever seen Experimentation. I made 7 Krayt guns, Crit Failed 1 and had at least 1 mod. success on every single one of the other guns killing my stats. I was just wondering if others are still having the same problem and if this issues has been or will be addressed by Sony.

Hey all,

For some reason I keep hitting this weird barrier. I'm an armorsmith grinding out Padded Armor for xp (which I also sell on the bazaar for 3k), and I've been experiencing something kinda weird. When I've crafted but before experimentation, the armor has 20% kinetic (crappy I know, but I just use any old ingredients). If I experiment, even if I succeed, the kinetic goes down. Now here's the really weird part. If I do nothing (i.e. just let it build without experimentation) the finished product will still lose three or four percent kinetic resist.

Am I doing something wrong?

Same thing happen to me when I was experimenting with composite.

I mean, what's the problem here? I thought it might be because I advanced up armor first (4/1/2/1), so I picked up another experimentation (4/1/2/2 as of this morning), but it's still happening.

Anyone have anything helpful to say about this?

Haven't had what you are saying happen, but I've had the reverse. I calculated out that a piece of composite I was making should be 47% and when experimented on it was 43%. I was mad, but when done crafting it came out with 48%. FYI, it was my first attempt at using Krayt scales in armor. They were only like 8-9% but let me figure out how they get used. Maybe you are using rancor hides or some such thing and they just work strange incrafting armor?

I noticed this myself last night. I was making composite and crit failed my special resist experimentation... and it RAISED the resists by 2 percent. This stayed right till the end of the armor making process even after experimenting on the normal effectiveness etc.

Something is hosed I feel, but not totally so. Most of it works.

I find that doing experimentation on normal effectiveness and durability I get good effects...

what happens is you probably added layers to it, or the resist is acting like a layer for some reason. either a special piece you inserted such as krayt scale or something, or an actual layer would do this. Composite will base the layer's protection as base + layer. thus, your initial combine will give you 20% kinetic, with say 13% base. well, if you're layer is only good for 4%, then your kinetic will drop to 17% upon creation or experimentation.

next time this happens, try experimenting a few into base, then one into ham. when you do base, it should lower the kinetic, and then when you do ham it should raise the kineitc to it's proper place (base + layer)

Okay, I need help here....

I've been a doctor since like, september, but this is the first time something has happened that I couldn't understand

These are the resources/components I'm using:

SDS - 72

CRDM - 60

BEC - 15 Power, 22 Charges

Reactive Gas - 962 OQ 133 DR

Avian Meat - 978 OQ 915 PE 458DR

Note also, I have 12 experimentation points

When I experiment on the power, I reach 894 power, with all great successes, but the effectiveness line is not maxed out, and I've used all 12 of my points

I have another avian/reactive combo though....

Reactive Gas - 899OQ 781DR

Avian Meat - 951OQ 988PE 644DR

When I use this, I max out the effectiveness line at 906 power, with a point left over to put into charges, so what's wrong with the first avian/reactive combination?

The DR is too low I would say... The effectiveness takes into consideration duration too, not just power.

In the first combo the DR of the gas kills your effectiveness line, because the power/duration are tied together in experimentation.

I was expecting the DR to have an effect on it, but it's impossible to get a 900+ strength pack with sub-10k duration?

I just don't understand why I'm not able to max the line with 12 points

I've played around with this quite a bit in the past...

Using resources with a combined DR of roughly 650 (oq average of about 980), it takes 11 points to max out power with perfect experimentation. 12 without. As your first resource combo is only slighly below that, I would expect it to be possible to max out the line with 11 points... Of course, not all "great successes" are created equal on enhance packs -- I'd recommend trying to experiment 1 or 2 points at a time, and track how much your power increases.

As for whether its possible to make 900 power packs with sub-10k duration... Well, I make 928/9ks and 910-ish/9.6ks with my snazzy 7dr meat.

And, by the way, I can get the 9.6k packs (combined DR of just under 900 in that case) to within 5 points of max power with 10 xp points, but it takes a whole lot of grinding schematics to do it.

Good luck.
