He may simply not like the look of RIS. Or more likely isnt willing to fork out 2-3 million just for a fancy looking helmet.
As for composite armor helmets, I just need to ask this. Are you actually certed to wear assault armor. And if so is it full mitigations or only partial? As if you only have partial (Say novice box in something that lets you wear assault armor) you'll still be hit with heavy encumberances from a well made helmet.
As far as what stats are possible It's hard to say for me as I havent made alot of armor in this fassion usually people want either Primus which raises both resists, or say energy layered recon armor (very popular among BHs and the like).
assumably though at the very least you could raise energy enough that it would match kinetic resists. And possibly after slicing the helmet you might manage to hit 6k resists to both. To my knowledge though no one has ever actually tried doing that. As it isnt really terribly practical. Though it's quite possible some one did and I either missed the post or it was never posted about.
Just keep in mind that when layering a resists of any kind the stat(s) that gets reduced are more heavily penalized than the bonuses. Primus layers for example will say just for examples sake. Raise kin and ergy 20 poitns. But lower elemental resists (Which currently dont matter anwyay as elemental damage is borked but seems their slowly fixing that) by 30 points.
This isnt really the exact ratio. But you get the same thing with energy layers where you'd raise 10 poitns but lower 15 or some such in kinetic. And I dont think you can hit the same 'cap' short of perhaps slicing to try and make up the difference.
I think actually I'll try this and let you know. Though that will have to wait till tomorrow.
Well I'm not quite sure of the math. As I've said I've not mucked about too much with layers. To be honest your best bet. is probably to go with primus layers. More expensive than energy layering. But then it wont bork up your kinetic reissts. And it'll only lower your elemental resists. Which yes... dont seem to matter terribly much. even if they did work.
I -think- per layer the cap on primus layers is something like 60 points or something to both kinetic and energy. So i -think- it's something like an extra 720 points of energy by the time you get to the cores. So final assembly maybe round 800 poitns
Keep in mind though I'm just guestimating. As I said though I'll try energy layering some assault armor tomorrow. I havent done it before mostly due to a shortage of high end dathomirian fiberplast. Though that has promptly been solved.
"capped" unlayered assault gets you 7000 kinetic 6000 base and 5000energy
primus layers cap at 50, energy at 100. Your cores can take 12 layers so......
perfect primus layered assault helmet (unsliced) 5600energy 5400kinetc
perfect energy layered assault helmet (unsliced) 6200energy 4800 kinetic
you really are better off with a battle helmet (can get 7200 energy) if you can decide on one you like
you really are better off with a battle helmet (can get 7200 energy) if you can decide on one you like
umm my composite helmets with 24 layers in it... that is 4 layers per segment... 3 segments per core... and helmet taking 2 cores from a factory crate...
i get energy around 6.1k with ease... now kinetic layers get 8.1k ...
battle i get energy around 7.1k
recon i get energy at 8.1k
so its not impossible to get 6.1k energy on a suit of assualt...but if you are hunting jedi i would suggest getting a backup profession that allows you to wear battle or recon...assault is designed for kinetic...

Fully-layering with energy essentially turns assault armor into something very similar to unlayered battle armor.
That's what I'd assumed would happen myself. Which actually makes it a technically viable option for those who have combat toons such as mine who are limited alas, to assault armor.
