Hi, I'm a realtively new player, I started New Year's eve. I'm really debating on what to make my character as he grows up. I've settled on armorsmith or weaponsmith. It is tough decieding between the two so I thought I'd ask this group and see what you thought...

there is a thing in your head that does things like THINK for you so that you can decide between choices - I am sure everyone has one and knows how to use it so lets see if you do. If youcant get itto work then flip a coin and you will have your new profession

So, I asked a simple question and gave you armorsmiths a chance to shine on our profession. I know that it is a long haul to get master, plus learning all the methods and tricks. Either profession I choose has a long haul, but I thought maybe if I heard some of the pros from folks who had already gone the route, it might help.

Instead I getthis response from Chevy... Nice to see that new players are welcome.

Judging by his post count I can see that he's new himself, at least to this board. I would hope that he does not reprsent the attitude of the rest of you on this board...

He just asked for other's opinions, Chevy. The fact that he's weighing the pros and cons of AS and WS indicates he does think. Maybeyou're the one who should do some "thinking" before making such a misinformed post.

Shrik, I personally find AS enjoyable. There's lots of intricacies involved in crafting a good suit of armor, though that's probably true of most crafting professions out there. The grind to hit master AS isn't too bad, I actually found collecting all the required resources tougher.

Can't really say anything about WS though, as I've not touched that profession.

Hello Shrik,

There will be trolls on all the forums, you just need to get a thick skin and become as bitter as everyone else! joking aside, I have had nothing but friendly help on this board, so I will offer the same to you. If you just started on 12-31, I would really suggest another profession - for a time. This and ws are both an incredable money sink. With both professions, you really don't make money until you hit master. For AS you need around 350,000 resources. Even if you buy the harvesters (40-90k each) it will take a lot of time and money.

To get started, buy some personal harvesters, and start selling resources. just find a high concentration. Dont worry about quality yet, as you will be selling these on the bazaar for 3 c/u. stacks of 1000 for 3000 creds. It will take a week or so of doing this until you turn a profit, so you will also need to do some destroy missions. pick up scout, and harvest all the creatures hides. sell them if you have to , but you will need lots of hides for as. Buy medium harvesters as soon as you can afford them. rinse/repeat. maybe grind to business 3 in artisan and open a small store in a high traffic player city.

Once you acquire some cash and better knowledge of resources, start harvesting the rare resources for the profession. They are hard to find them all, so if you ever see a spawn of it, get some harvesters on it. Continue to sell resources, but start stockpliling some for your grind to AS. Remember, SWGCraft is your friend. use it, love it, treat it like a lady.

Hope this info helps

Sounds like on On the right track then. I've currently got one Medium pulling a nicegrade alum and I'm stockpilling it. In a "Right place at the right time" deal I got 175k of med-low grade steel and 9k of low grade copper for a whopping 5k credits. I am using it for "Grind" materials. I have one personal extractor pulling decent grade copperand two other personal extractors pulling med grade steel for sale.

Short term plans are to get two more med miners. One to replace the two personal extractors for steel to sell and one to mine rad power to keep the others runningand maybe some for sale. I am running destroy missions to keep the cash flow up.

Looks like I'll need to go to 50% faction missons and 50% regulr missions and get my hide collection built back up. Before I decieded to consider AS, I dumped about 800 units of it... Ooops.

Thanks for the advice. I like the ability to customize the armor... plus, it doesn't seem like there are that many ASs around...

Armorsmith to me is a lot more fun to play...a lot more options/choices in crafting...I'm both a MAS and a MWS btw...

If you really want to know what I think then this is it.

Armorsmith is a crappy career for ME due to the fact that it is more complicated then most of the other crafting proffesions and cost more to progress. Only thing that makes it easy for me is that I am Master Architect so I dont have to buy most of my resources except Hide for composite armor.

I see Armorsmith as simply crafting armor and Weaponsmith as simply crafting weapons and since I have Master Architect, Master Artisan and Master Armorsmith and a small amount of shooting skills I find it useless for me to make armor for my own personal needs. All I can say is if you have a hunting/shooting skill or you LOVE to PVP then this will be good for you but if you are a crafter only then you will just be in it for the money.

I started back in early December. It's the only profession I've done, recently mastered, and I love it. It's a lot of work, but it's also a lot of fun to build up a good customer base and have people compliment your armor.

Well I went armorsmith. I got novice and have started down the long road. I got a macro to help get some fo the carfting xp done. I noticed that it takes a bit longer for a armor upgrade kit to produce as opposed to a cdef carbine.. oh well, it's all good. I may need to have two sets of tools to run through.

I'm enjoying it so far. I like the fact that you can customize things.

Well, I chose both. My crafter is a second account character. I mastered weaponsmith first and now I'm 4,2,0,4 armorsmith. Armorsmith is a much easier grind IF you have the resources and you have cash.I invested over 1.5M credits in my weaponsmith to get him to master. The investment will be less with the armorsmith because I already had nearly all the resources I needed. Hope this helped.

I think Armorsmithing takes a lot more time before you see any results money-wise. You basically have to master 3/4 of the proffession before you can sell one thing. I'm not sure if the same is true for Weaponsmithing. But I do see that there is more demand for lower level weapons due to the certification system. Lower level armor is not touched by anyone because they can always use better stuff.

I am awfully fond of my current Rifle but have bought a new ADK that is still attached to a differant gun. One has to go! Which should I keep and which should I delete? I just cant make my mind up so any help or advice would be appreciated.

T21

Speed: 2.35

Modified speed: 1.37

Damage: 484 - 1182

Accuracy Bonus: 1

Wound: 33.35

Base DPS: 355.13

Modified DPS: 606.32

SAC: 97

Advanced Laser Rifle

Speed: 2.25

Modified speed: 1.32

Damage: 484 - 1168

Accuracy Bonus: 16

Wound:14.95

Base DPS:367.18

Modified DPS: 626.89

SAC: 82

I'm guessing that the ALR is the better gun but I have gone through a lot with my T21 and it looks so much cooler!

There are no power ups on either gun by the way and both are fully sliced.

Thanks in advance for your help and I will see what you guys think when I come back from my weekend break.
