Thread: Who's fault and how would you resolve this?

So, I got an email from a customer saying that he bougt 2 sets of my armor in a back packs. Well, he only had room in his inventory for one set and left the other set on my vendor for about a week. Due to a huge remodling of the commerce district in our city I had to move shop. I pulled everything off my vendor and moved and delete that vendor along with the set of amor he left on there not knowing that he still has it on there. As it is not visible to me. Now the guy wants his money back because he said I deleted his armor. What would you do in this situation. Oh he said I gave him no warning of it so it's my fault.

If it were me, I'd probably give him his money back. I don't think you're obligated to do so and he should have made arrangements to pick it up. But look at it this way, if you're nice to him, even a little bit, there's a good chance he'll keep coming back and buy a lot more than 2 sets of armor, at least, that's my experience.

Technically it is your fault because you didn't check the vendor before deleting it. But it was also partly the customers fault for leaving it on the vendor for that long and not retrieving it. You could argue that your vendor is not a place to store items and you have the right to delete it whenever you want. I would contact the customer and offer him half of the price of the armour to make him happy.

Customer's fault, but I would refund the credits to him in full.

There is a good chance the suit was long gone before you deleted the vendor. Its 100% his fault that his armor is gone...that said, I wouldnt refund his money. Most likely, I would have made a replacement set and offered him a large discount (mabye 50%?)

I don't believe you can see items that are awaiting pickup. I'm pretty sure you can only see offers to the vendor that would belong to someone else.

In any case, I would say it is the customers fault for not getting his stuff out of the vendor. But that being said I would rather lose one suit than lose a customer.

I don't think I would refund his money but rather replace the lost suit. He did after all buy it. If he rather have the money back instead of the lost suit (which you cannot verify) I would question his intentions.

Customer's fault, no question. Think about it: if you were a grocery store and you left your beer on the rack under you cart, what would happen if you went back to complain? What if you left the beer on the cart *FOR A WEEK*? Do you have a right to complain? Nope. It's an expensive lesson the buyer, I think. I tend to agree with everyone that perhaps trying to cut the buyer some slack is a good idea for the advertising and return business. I wouldn't take *any* loss on it, though. Besides, it needs to sting a little so the buyer remembers to be more careful in the future. It's not your responsibility to protect his money if you are selling honestly, fairly, and within the rules.

Also, I agree that if you offer him a replacement suit, perhaps, and he won't take it....smells like a scam.....

Totally customer's fault, however, if you don't abide by the addage "Customers are always right" then you shouldn't be in business.

Besides, 1 suit of composite costs very little to make if you're a decent Armorsmith. I would replace the suit free of charge and offer my apologies becuase of the special circumstances with the city's remodeling. In the end, you will have a satisfied customer that will most likely come back for more armor because you addressed his needs. 200K-350K loss for the suit and a pissed off customer OR 1 million+ in future sales. You decide.

I completely agree with the folks who have already posted.

Totally the customer's fault. And the customer should get an email stating that there was no way you could have seen the item awaiting pickup on the vendor unless it were made as an "offer" to you.

I think you should nevertheless bank tip the customer back the cash for the full suit of armor.

This having been said, I think armorsmiths are easy prey for folks any time they move shop. "You just deleted my armor with a full suit of composite" etc. So...I would probably leave my vendor until it self-deletes when I move shop...but just the one with the full suits of armor on it. That should only take 2 weeks or so after you remove everything. And in the meantime you can leave it saying a message that tells everyone where your new shop is and that they should pick up anything that's on the vendor.

Shion,

I have no problem replacing the armor for this guy, Personally, my monthly income is in the 9 figures so it just a drop in a bucket, but the guy started out with and attitude that it's my fault and he deserves a refund. Everyone who knows me on my server knows I'm very generous andfair but, this guy pissed meoff with his attitude so much make menot want to refund him although, I'll probably will because I know the money he spent is worth alot more to him than it is to me. But, he threatens me that he will never buy anything from me and his guild will never buy from me again if I don't refund him. If he approached me saying hey I accidentally left a set of armor on your vendor afterI bought it and it got deleted instead of accusing me how he has 36 days to pick up and I never warn him that the vendor was getting deleted blah blah blah... I've would have refunded him immediately.

I'm just posting this to just give other AS's a heads up if this ever happens to you.

in light of his attitude, i'd politely reply that you were unable to see his purchase was yet to be picked up, and that you're sorry he was unable to retrieve it, but that it was his fault that he did not do so, and that you cannot verify whether or not he did. leave it at that. say sorry, but dont give him his money. when i was pulling 9 figures, a guild isn't that much. trust me, you dont want a customer base of whiners and people who think they're entitled to everything. Most likely his guild will still shop there too. There's no reason to refund his money, he's probably 10 yrs old and just a rude, spoiled little kid. You can afford to lose the 10+ million that he and his guild will provide you in the future. trust me, there's nothing to spend money on in this game that's really worth more then 100k.

Just my advice... dont reward the whiner. (Esp if you have the money to back it up)

This is simply for the attitude of the customer. (and based on the value of credits to you personally)

/tip idiot ???k bank

/ban idiot

Some people just aren't worth the headache of having to deal with.

I would say most folks are of the type to actually talk rationally about it. And I'd have no problem helping them out as much as possible.

i'd say that it his fault. Why would it take him a week to come back and get it. all he has to do is drop stuff off in a house or in the bank. then come right back for it. I dont think you owe him any money at all. There is no way it takes a week to come back to get something

I'd have to agree here. I've made the same mistake at your vendors before too because of everything being in packs. The first time you stocked 80/80/80 comp my eyes were bigger than my inventory and I wasn't able to grab all 3 sets I bought. So instead of using you for storage I jumped a shuttle home, dropped my stuff, and came back later that day to pick up the last set. I find it hard to believe that in the week after buying he couldn't find 10minutes to run to your place and get his armor. And even so there was no way for you to see what was waiting to be picked up on your vendor. Once purchased it's gone to the person stocking wether it's still in there or not.

As someone who shops at your place frequently I have to say that your service and products have always been good. You've even offered free slicing of some items bought from your vendors at certain times, and that's something that most smiths won't do. I really don't think that this guy's negative feedback is going to have much of an impact on your overall sales given your rep.
